Choreography question?
I have an idea for a dance just waiting for me to choreograph it....however I have not yet found the perfect song for it. I was considering starting the choreography before I have the song finalized. I'm just not sure if this is a good idea, because what if once I choreograph it it never fits with any music, you know? Suggestions? I've choreographed before, I'm not a beginner dancer, so serious answers please. :)

i would just start it and then go set out looking for music.... you can always fit it to the music? if you just make the movements basic at first and then once you get music make them more complex it will work. This way you can make a start and your dance ideas will actually come alive. think about what music you are going to use and try and get it as soon as possible.
good luck :)

I am not a choreographer but my wife was and a rather well known one too until she died some years ago.
She would sit for HOURS ON END listening to music to find exactly the song for what she had in mind. On a number of occasions she had me actually write a song for her when she couldn't find anything. She was a dancer and figure skater who turned to choreographing for those performing arts when she quite performing.
It would be a HUGE mistake to start choreographing a piece until you have the music in hand.. please don't do it.

I'd say go ahead and start you choreography! I would just leave some gaps and spaces so you can rearrange it if need be (if you know what I mean). You and then always move it around to fit the music you end up choosing! This "strategy" has worked well for me.
