Can anyone help me identify this tree?
Hi, this tree was in blossom in a garden I visited today and sadly I didn't have a camera...
Its about 3.5 metres tall, smooth leaved,(large, oval slightly downy) with grey barkand clusters of five petalled white flowers with a lovely jasmine-type fragrance. I'm in the south of the UK. Any ideas what this could be? It was growing up a sheltered wall but not a climber...
Thanks everyone - all great suggestions. In the end I went with contacting the gardens themseves - turns out it is a clerodendrum, or glory tree/tree jasmine. Many thanks...

By your description I would suggest it could be a White Magnolia. Visit a Plant Nursery and as it's time the flowers are blooming, smell the perfume if there's any there and compare it if you can. The perfume is usually stronger at night.

Go back and knock on the door and ask. People with gardens love to tell people about things that people admire. Often you get given cuttings or seeds like this...........
