will this help me in getting a tattoo apprenticeship?
okay so i'm 19 and i am a apprenticing body piercer at a shop that only does piercings. body piercing and tattooing are the fields i have always wanted to be in but once i am done with this apprenticeship i also want to go get a tattoo apprenticeship as well.
once i do become a body piercer would that encourage a tattoo artist to apprentice me more or will it not make a difference? not to say that i'm only becoming a body piercer to get into the field of tattooing because that's not the case, i really do love all kinds of body mods but tattooing is the one i've been set on for the majority of my life.
if you want to take the time to see my art i'll post up a few:

i would really appreciate advise from professional tattoo artists themselves but all advise is welcome and appreciated :)
thank you :D. i know a few shops around here that are super good and i have visited some of them just asking them to look at my work and such because i was 17. i had a few shops that told me to keep coming but i had no money and some bad things in my life were happening. i'm going back down to one of the shops though tomorrow cause my girlfriend is getting tatted so maybe i'll strike up the conversation with him. but i don't have the time or money now because i'm already busy with my current apprenticeship. :P

Hey there,
I'm a Tattoo Artist and have been for only a short while. I did my apprenticeship by going directly to my tattoo artist and asking for tips. He then asked what I wanted to do and we kinda got into this rhythm where I would learn under him.
I have a friend who went to a bunch of very reputable tattoo studios and showed them her portfolio of artworks and some rejected her and 2 offered her an apprenticeship outright. She now owns her own studio and I'm looking into buying mine soon.
I think that being a piercer should not normally affect a person's decision to hire you as a tattoo apprentice because they are two jobs that require entirely different techniques.
I think you have a talent for drawing and I would suggest doing some real research on good tattoo artists in your country, or anywhere for that matter XD and seeing what they are offering. Don't be shy, you've got the skills to take you far!! You may get turned down quite a bit, but, as the saying goes...ask 100 and 5 will come back to you :)
I wish you good luck my friend and congratulations on becoming a qualified piercer!! You can do it, just go for it!!
I hope this has been some useful advice...xxxx XD

what you could must do is get a portfolio in combination of your paintings. and do not persist with only one sort, exhibit that you're flexible. and cross to an artist you appreciate and speak to them. allow them to understand that is certainly some thing you're enthusiastic about. Realize regardless that that you just WONT get to simply leap into tattooing. and it takes like five years to entire the complete cycle. however allow them to understand that you're enthusiastic about realizing what the apprenticeship entail to be able to equipped your self. you're going to quite often want yet another activity, and can paintings extra hours than you ever have on your existence. but when you're severe, then speak to an artist and ask if they are going to speak to you approximately it. although they don't seem to be accepting an apprentice they quite often could be pleased to allow you to understand what you're in for.
