Writers, are you trying to get published?

What are you trying to get published? A poem, a short story, a novel?

Update:

Actually, it's not. I've seen other writers in this section say they aren't going to try to get their work published. They just want to write.

Not yet but I will be trying to get my book published when I finish editing it.

It's not a stupid question--some writers are trying to get published and some either don't think they have the chops yet, are writing fanfic (and if Jane Espenson calls fanfic writers "real writers," I'm certainly not going to argue with HER), or have no interest in publication but are still writing.

I am, yes. I've got twelve short stories running the gamut from hard SF to heroic fantasy to horror making the rounds, and an urban fantasy/SF/medical thriller novel with a couple of agents (one of whom requested the full manuscript) right now. I've had four short stories published in various venues, one of which is a SFWA market.

    No.

I feel that I'd have to make writing a passion before I could posses the drive it takes to accomplish serious writing and seek publishing. As of now, I don't have the passion.

I have a feeling I might have the determination when I'm 65, retired, and bored with life. Then, hopefully, a real love for literature will blossom. But until then, reading and writing are only thinks I enjoy.

  • I'm not trying to get published at the moment. I just want to get a decent novel written.

Only after it's complete [meaning edited and everything] will I even think about that stage.

Source(s): I've got one novel so far.

Funny way you phrased it... what I am trying to.. or about to try to after some revisioning, is a short story (don't laugh, I already know it's hopeless, but hey, it's not costing me anything to send it out anyway... more like a novella really.. whatever)

But the thing I actually want to get published, or like really try is a novel, but I'm not even a quarter the way revising it, and I'm slow and good at procrastination.... blleehhh

    Nah. I write for fun.

Besides, I live in Hong Kong. There aren't many publishers here that would even consider representing something written in English. Maybe if and when I move back to the states. Who knows.

After I edit it, of course I'm going to try and get my books published!

I wish I could get as far as trying to get published...

Kind of. It would be nice if my books could be published.

Writers are trying to publish their writing. Use common sense. No offense but this is a stupid question.
