Dimmer switch isn't dimming?

Just installed a brand new Lutron dimmer switch. It works fine for off and on, but the dimmer slider isn't working. The lights do not dim or get brighter no matter what position the slider is in. Someone please help?

Update:

Ya, thanks but I'm pretty sure it's a dimmer switch...

There was a fault in one of the lines the first time I used it and the GFCI plug was thrown. Could this have fried the dimmer?

Update 2:

They are normal incandescent bulbs.

Yes it can. You didn't mention what type of bulbs that you are trying to dim. If they are CF L's, a dimmer will NOT work, unless they are specifically made for dimming. It will tell you on the package if they are "dimmable" or not. Incandescents, no problem.

If you will read the instructions, they tell you to FULLY install the dimmer with the power OFF. This is not to insult your intelligence, just FYI. I hope it's nothing more than the bulbs. Easy fix. Good luck in all you do and may God bless.

dimmer switches only work with incandescent light bulbs. they will not work for fluorescent lights, compact fluorescent lights (CFL) bulbs or fans for that matter.
