What is it called when a doctor is no longer allowed to be a doctor?

You know, a lawyer is disbarred when he is no longer allowed to practice law. I believe that there is a similar term for doctors who have had their privilege to practice medicine taken away. Specifically, I am writing a short story set in the early 1940's, so it must be whatever term was used at the time.

The title of doctor refers to the level of education the person has, and that can't be taken away. Even an attorney who has been disbarred still has a law degree.

The only term I know of is license revocation.

You might be able to go to various state websites for the licensing body and see if you can find anything there.

Lawyers are disbarred, doctors accused of unethical conduct or malpractice have their license to practice medicine revoked.

When enough complaints have been filed against a particular physician the state's medical board convenes and holds a hearing. If there is enough evidence against the man the board then votes on whether or not to revoke his license.

Without that license the man can no longer legally practice medicine even though technically he's still a doctor. From what I'm able to figure out the process is called "revocation".

They still have a doctors degree, they just dont have a license to practise.

That means , they can not get doctors insurance because noone will insure the person.

Only way to get out of that, Is move elsehwere, to another country or state.

It's called malpractice, and it is litigated and reviewed all of the time. Medical boards review cases all of the time.

If the doctor loses a lawsuit, he may not be able to afford the cost of insurance to practice.

I don't think there is a term for it besides having your medical license revoked.
