Do Macbooks have some sort of word processor on them?
I just got a new macbook in the mail today, but the Microsoft Office software I need won't come until the end of the week. The problem is that I need to start typing something today, so is there anywhere on my mac I can just start typing, and then I'll reformat it to Word when the software comes in the mail? On a PC, the kind of thing I'm looking for would be called "wordpad," which comes pre-installed on all PCs (to my knowledge) and is free. I'm new to the mac world, so bear that in mind when you answer. Thanks, everyone.

Maybe try TextEdit. I actually just got a macbook also and I am thinking TextEdit is like wordpad. Also, like the other answer said, OpenOffice is very good. The computer guy who I have always used for help, ect. told me to download it and it works great. Also, you can download a free trial of iWork on the apple website. iWork is similar to the Office programs ("Pages" is "Word", "Keynote" is "Powerpoint", and "Numbers" is "Excel"), you can open Office documents in iWork and you can also save iWork documents in Office format to be opened by Office programs later. The free trial is good for 30 days. Hope this helps!
