What is the best way to treat poison ivy/oak/sumac?

I'm not certain which I have, most likely ivy. I've got itchy *** little bumps all around my legs and it's driving me nuts.

If it gets really bad, you can go to the doctor and they will give you steriods (get the pills, not the cream, because if you're really in a bad way, the cream will actually irritate your skin).

Barring that, I boil up some chamomile tea (put a lot in and let it boil for ten minutes), and then I make oatmeal with the tea as the liquid. Then let it cool in the fridge and then apply it where it itches. Chamomile and oatmeal are good for the itching on their own, but they work even better together. They won't make the poison ivy go away any fast (I understand that alcohol rubbed on the skin can get rid of the oil, urushiol, that makes you itch), but they will bring some relief.

    Source(s): Poison ivy allergy.
