  • Any ideas on an outfit to wear to an outdoor wedding in the fall?

One of my oldest friends is getting married this month outdoors. I'm in Missouri, so the weather at 11 am could be anything from 55 degrees F to 80 degrees F. (Seriously, I just looked up the ranges from last week and that's where we fell.) It will be a traditional wedding but not very large and not likely very formal. (Hence, outdoors.)

Honestly, I have no idea what to wear. Any suggestions? =D

  • What do I need for a home theater set up with a projector?

My mom has the perfect room in her basement for a home theater with a projector and wants to set one up for my step-dad's birthday.

She has a speaker system for it, and that is already wired (though not installed.) I know we need a screen and projector.

    What else will we need?

  • How do I report that my employers are illegally taking my tips?

I word at a sushi/hibachi restaurant that I strongly believe is in violation of federal labor laws. When I work in dining they take 30% of my tips and when I work in hibachi they take 50%.

This money does not go to bussers or bartenders, and we are expected to tip these people separately (although we only have bussers one night a week, so no big). I am told that the "Share Tips" as they call them go to the house, and was told this is used to pay the chefs and managers.

I can't find any direct Missouri law against this, but I have seen several things on the DoL's website that makes me feel this is illegal, even though I've been told that this is customary for Japanese restaurants. I've also heard that people have to comply to the most stringent law, whether it happens to be Federal or State.

Here is the main source of information I'm using:

PDF on Tips from the DoL (pay attention to Tip Retention and Tip Pooling: http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs15...

So I think I have determined this is illegal. I just can't find out how to report compliance issues in Missouri.

    1) Should I try to report it to Missouri or Federal DoL?

    2) How do I report?

    3) Can I do it anonymously so I don't lose my job?

    4) Is this going to be expensive?

Because I'm just a poor college student, guys. I can't fund some lawsuit that will probably amount only to a few thousand bucks. Thank you for reading this long mess.

  • What do you think is the best brownie recipe?

If it isn't a traditional one, that's cool too. I just want to know what recipe is your favorite.

  • So... Does meth fix a stuffed up nose?

I was buying Sudafed today and you have to show your liscense and everything so the meth heads don't buy a ton and start brewing up the dental-rot juice, and it made me wonder if meth fixes stuffy noses like Sudafed?

I probably shouldn't have asked the pharmacist his thoughts on the matter.

  • Help me think of a topic for a powerpoint!?

I have to make one for class, and it can be over anything... which of course means I can't think of a thing. He didn't specify, but it most likely needs to be informative, though instructive could also work. I just need something I can give a five minute presentation on and show off my mad power point skillz... ;)

    Thanks in advance!

  • How to make leftover ham "pot pies" ?

We have left over ham and leftover pie crust, and were thinking about making mini-pies using them in muffin tins, but aren't sure what all to put in them.

We have a few kinds of mustard, and some cheese... What else? I was thinking apple or pear would be good, but my mom thinks it sounds gross.

  • Any ideas what I can cook with these ingredients?

My mom's out of town and I am but a poor college student low on money and there is almost no food in the house. Actually, there is a decent amount of food, but none of it cohesive. I think we have every condiment in the world.

I have about a pound and a half of ground hamburger, frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts (bleh), Steak-Umms (bleh), frozen uncooked turkey burgers, frozen stir-fry vegetables, easy mac, macaroni shells, penne noodles, whole wheat spaghetti, half a jar of vodka sauce, canned artichokes, panko bread crumbs, enchilada sauce, frozen hash browns, frozen green beans, martini olives, a jar of roasted red peppers, frozen salmon fillets, peanut butter, canned tuna and salmon, brown rice, quinoa, Laughing Cow cheese wedges, two packages of cream cheese, 2 oz shredded Italian cheese blend, and about 4 oz feta. About three English muffins and a package of Zataran's Red Beans and Rice rounds out all of it.

As far as staples, I have no eggs, no milk, no bread. I do have one stick of butter and some olive and cooking oils in addition to every seasoning and condiment known to man.

So any ideas? More than one recipe would be awesome also...

  • Can anyone give me a briefing on what to expect in my new job as a waitress?

I worked in foodservice at a hospital so I am familiar with how to treat customers (plus, there are tons of guides for that online).

What I need to know involves the mechanics. I was hired on the spot at a new sushi restaurant when I went to fill out an application, and was only told the dress code and to come in at Monday at 5:30, so I'm getting the impression that this job might not have the most concise and organized structure.

I need to know about how I report tips and all that, what I do with the plates when I clear them, how do I turn in orders, etc. Hopefully I'll be trained, but the only thing I'm optimistic about is making money. Like I said, they seemed a bit disorganized, so I'm worried that I'll get dumped straight into this.

  • I've never baked bread before, but want to try. What's a good recipe?

I'm getting ready to go to the store, so no specific ingredients needed. Not dessert bread, though.

  • Did McCain really call his wife the "c-word" ?

You know the one. Rhymes with punt.

I heard he called his wife that and said she wore too much make-up in front of reporters, and then blamed the outburst on having "a long day."

Is this true? If so, when did it happen?

  • Can anyone help me plan a dinner for my grandpa?

I wanted to cook dinner for my grandpa, and I'm not sure what to make. He is diabetic, but not brittle or anything. Last time he was in the hospital they actually didn't put him on a diabetic diet, but should still watch the carbs and sugars.

I know his favorite dessert is tirimisu, and he is really a steak and potatoes guy. I was thinking of some sort of coffee-peppercorn rubbed beef tenderloin?

    Any ideas?

  • "Why did freedom for women expand at some times and places in the ancient world but..."?

"Why did freedom for women expand at some times and places in the ancient world but contract at other times and places?"

This is one of the questions I have on the take home essay portion of my Western Civ exam, and am having trouble coming up with a concise reason.

I already have the sources he wants us to use (since we only have one evening to do it, it is just from our texts), and I'm not really asking for help writing the essay. I can cover that. I just need some help getting started with a thesis statement.
