Need desperate hair help...?

My boyfriend is bi- racial , with a sort of curly afro but more curls than tangles, he went to an african braiding shop with hopes that he could get dread locks (he wants them really bad) and the lady (who must be unprofessional) just felt on his hair and said she could tame it, but not dread it ,some bull crap...

What I really need help with is , can someone with silky textured hair even get dreads, if so how, and what are the methods for up keep on the dread locks, and just general information... thanks bunches...(WILL AWARD BEST ANSWER...PROMISE)

Someone with silky hair can get dread locks and they are actually much easier to take out if you decide you do not want them anymore.

Before you can start your dreadlocks, it's best to dry your hair out. For at least a week, do not use any conditioner in your hair. If you can stand it, wash your hair with bar soap instead of shampoo. This will dry it out.

Separate your hair into sections and braid it. Each braid will become one dreadlock, so plan accordingly. Leave the braids in at least one day. This will give your hair some wave which makes it easier to dread.

Take out one braid. Use your come and back-comb the hair to make it knotty. Then spread some dread wax on your hands and roll the new dreadlock between them. Repeat the backcombing and rolling process several times until it is starting to look like a dreadlock.

Do this for each of the braids until you have a head full of dreads.

Over the next couple of weeks, you are still in a precarious situation. Getting your hair wet in the shower may loosen your budding dreadlocks. To help them form, try soaking your hair in salt water. This will further dry out your hair. Apply more wax as needed.

When you have spare time (e.g. watching tv), try rolling your new dreads between your hands to help them along.

Some people try using honey or other sticky foods to help dread their hair. While this may work, it's a sure way to attract bugs. Stick to the wax.

You can get dreads for most of any hair type, but the problem is with a silky texture it can be harder than a rougher one because rough hair tangles more easily, and dreads are basically "tamed tangles" :)

This has nothing to do with being racist but i suggest going to a beauty shop with more african american hairdressers, because this is more of a hair type they might be used to working with :)

    Hoped this helped.
