Quick questions about orchestra hierarchy?

I'm composing a song right now, and I want the score to look correct as if it was being read by the players. I have a string quartet (1st and 2nd violins, Cello, and a viola), a harp, a piccolo flute, and just a classical flute. So what's the order of these instruments, and is this order correct for the string quartet: Violin Sec 1, Cello Sec, Viola Sec, Violin Sec2? Thanks!!

The correct order in the score (top to bottom), which is what I presume you are asking, is:

    Piccolo

    Flute

    Harp

    Violin 1

    Violin 2

    Viola

    Cello

Instruments tend to be grouped according to family (for ease of reading) and, within the families, from highest to lowest, in the order woodwind, brass (with horns at the top rather than trumpets because of their affinity to the woodwind section), percussion (with timpani at the top), harp, keyboard instruments, strings.

Why are you calling it a "song"? Is there any singing involved?
