Why do NBA fans feel the need to protect their favorite players?

^ that's my opinion about it... kinda. I think it's dumb that we defend our fav. players sometimes.

I don't know about everyone else, but my friends make fun of my favorite players for the simple fact that they are my favorite players.

Dirk Nowitzki really doesn't have a weakness except for the fact that he can never lead his team to a championship, no matter how good a regular season he had. That's all... other than that, Dirk is definitely one of the best players in the NBA today and all-time, or just best PF.

Also... Shane Battier. You almost never hear about him, like, AT ALL. I, for one, love the guy. I love his determination, his hustle, his defense, his 3-pointers, his optimism, he's just an all around great guy. People usually tend to discredit him and what he does. I need to help remind people how good he really is.

The reason why I care about certain players who are my favorite is because not many other people do. Most players I like, such as, Shane Battier, J.J. Redick, and Kyle Korver are all very underrated people that I find to be very good players. An average NBA fan likely wouldn't take the time to pay attention to these type of players. I do.

I have many fav players, but I know they aren't perfect. A lot of people think they are (especially Laker/Kobe fans). That's where the problem comes in.

BQ: I have many fav players for different reasons. Hakeem Olajuwon, Scottie Pippen, Shawn Kemp, Tim Duncan and (believe it or not) Kobe Bryant.

Fans defend their favorite player because humans feel the need to prove they are right

Don't you ever feel the need to defend something you like?

Like if someone's bashing your favorite movie, you want to put your input in to why it's amazing.

It's just personal taste, and just expressing your opinion on a certain thing.

I've always liked Point Guards for some reason.

Cause some of the things people say don't even make sense so u correct them...also some want ur opinion.....

hmmn Good Question Nick. My favorite player is Derek Fisher . I defend him for the fact he is my favorite player and plays for my favorite team. I understand when people want to criticize him for his flaws in the basketball court . I can take it because that's how things are but I also tell them how valuable he is to the Lakers. When they start attacking him for things off the court that just bugs me. For example you know how he left Utah to get better care for his daughter health. A lot people started saying he just left to back to the Lakers and that crap. Things like that I defend.

I actually dont protect Mo or Westbrook that much. I completely understand when people say bad things about them. I actually call Russell Westbrook overrated sometimes haha.

even though he's not my favorite player currently, I will always protect Z for some reason. Love that man.
