can anyone explain to me the thinking of mormons?

where do they get the idea that we came from another planet and that members of mormons are gods and goddesses and that Mary and GOD actually had physical sex, ect. this sounds to me more like a cult that a religion and to convert to this cult takes more vanity than anything else. i had a "friend" who converted to this cult and then used our friendship to try and convert me years ago. i read up on it the other day and was horrified by what i read. i don't understand how any sane person can truely believe all this trash. i don't usually put down others beliefs but this is so horrible.

nobody can explain this kind of thinking ---- which BTW is NOT what the LDS (aka mormons) believe.

    the LDS.......

~do NOT believe that we come from another planet.

~and we are only humans here - just like everybody else. the bible does say that humans can become gods and godesses after this life if they live worthy and right.

~do not believe that God and mary had sex --- the LDS believe in the virgin birth as recorded in the bible. we use the KJV.

~if you want to REALLY and HONESTLY read up on a religion --- go to that religion's site and see what they teach. for the LDS that means http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=e419fb... or http://www.mormon.org/

what the LDS actually believe is not in any way horrible - nor cult-like.

I'm no neurosurgeon, but from what I understand is that thinking is electrical impulses in the brain.

We believe we were spirits before we were born. Other than saying that we were with God, I don't know anyone who's said where that was, but it must have been somewhere.

We do not believe that we ARE gods and goddesses, but rather that everyone has the potential to become like Him.

I don't believe that God had sex with Mary. I know some Mormons do, but it is not taught at church, nor part of the doctrine.

    I hope that helps

It's horrible to you because you have the wrong idea. We don't believe that we are gods and goddesses, right now, but we do believe that we can progress to one day become gods and goddesses. Anyone has this opportunity, if they would follow His commandments and stay strong in His gospel. We do not believe that happened between Mary and Heavenly Father. What happened is that Mary was a very pure, innocent girl. Because she was so pure, Heavenly Father chose her to be the mother of His only Begotten son, Jesus Christ. There was no physical interaction for her to become pregnant.

Maybe you should ask your friend more about our beliefs instead of asking the world. You'll most likely receive lies. You can also visit mormon.org and lds.org. I know that on mormon.org you can chat with people to answer your questions. You'll receive the truth there.

That isn't exactly what we believe. That is however, what jerks tell people we believe. It is true that we believe that God is a physical being, an actual living God. That is something that Joseph Smith learned when he saw God. We do believe that Mary was a virgin when she gave birth, and have no information beyond what can be found in the Bible about how Mary got pregnant.

We don't think of ourselves as Gods, although we do believe that we are created in the image of God, and are his spiritual children, and can inherit all that he has, as taught in the New Testament. It is foolish to expect a straight answer from Ford about a Chevy. Go to a Mormon website if you want to learn about Mormons.

We don't believe we came from another planet. You're mixing us up with the Scientologists, I think.

Mormons are not gods and goddesses. We're very human (obviously). We simply believe that in the next life, we'll be less flawed than we are now. Most Christians believe that.

We don't believe God and Mary had sex. That's just gross.

No offense, sweetie, but you clearly know nothing about what we actually believe. Before you judge your "friend," you might want to do some research rather than just accepting whatever nonsense you find on the Internet. What kind of friend were you if you chose to judge her based on what some idiot on the Net claimed rather than what she tried to tell you? Don't accept everything you read as truth.

Well, luckily nothing you read is accurate.

Dont forget, just because some person posts it online, doesnt mean its true.....whatsoever.

And I AM Mormon, and nothing you listed is accurate. So relax about your friend. They were probably sharing something they find beautiful and valuable with you...BECAUSE THEY LOVE YOU.

If believing all the crap makes someone "insane", then its the anti, non-members that are nuts, not the mormons. Because they actually put stock in those lies and we certainly do not.

It wouldn't by any chance be "The Godmakers" you read? If it wasn't it was probalby based on that book because that's what it sounds like.

We don't believe that crap. You were reading anti-Mormon propaganda, designed to get you to fear and hate us, without even checking it out.

We don't believe we came from another planet. We don't believe that God and Mary had sexual intercourse.

Your friend didn't USE your friendship, unless she was stupid enough to not like you anymore just cause you didn't join. Or, unless you actually believe the stupid stuff you read about us.

I know that who ever told you this also told you that we lie about our beliefs, but, really, what good would that do? Why would we want to have members under false pretenses? We aren't stupid.

But you know what? whoever wrote what you read? They think you ARE stupid.

I'm not even Mormon and I know that's not what they believe. I have several good Mormon friends. They wouldn't be nearly crazy enough to believe any of that hogwash. Have you tried actually talking to a Mormon?

They will say that their God was once a man and they have no idea what planet he grew up on, could be earth for all they care since evolutionists say it is millions and millions of years old, and that God has a wife but they never speak of her even though she is a parent, and she is only their to pop kids out but not parent or talk to her children, how sexist don't you think or any other Goddesses that the polygamy God has. They do not speak of this intimacy because anti-mormons talk of endless sex so they say they have no idea how Gods and Goddesses have intimacy in heaven. For a "restored Truth" it still leaves tooooooooooooooo many questions unanswered for me, so I quit the church for a God that answered questions when I asked him.

Where do they get the idea? From their own prophets and leaders of coarse. They taught all that as "truth."

How can the member brush aside what came from their leaders? (teachings over and over they make excuses for)

Pick a topic here, and just see what LDS leaders have taught, straight from the pulpit. Some of it will blow your mind.

    SEE...http://www.mormonquotes.com/search.php?category_id...

    Edit:

How can the members say here that they do not believe in becoming Gods and Goddesses? (Priests and priestesses also.)

By completely obeying various laws and ordinances, and learning handclasps and a new name, in the temple.

That belief is straight from their temple endowment.

    See...http://www.lds4u.com/lesson5/templecovenants.htm

Source(s): ex mormon~ (temple and all) that did her own research and come to leave the LDS church. ~
