There's a product called Groom that is brilliant, you can get it somewhere like Halfords. It's also useful around the home as it's very good at getting rid of stains in carpets etc.

Filthy with what? Particulate matter, like crumbs from eating or dirt, or are we talking about stains? If you have a lot of particulate matter, I agree with the first answerer that you should use a vacuum cleaner. For stains, there are a lot of stain removers out there for all kinds of cloth/carpet materials. Try them on a part that won't show first to make sure that the stain remover doesn't discolor the fabric. I've had pretty good luck with Tech stain remover on most things. I also like Petastic Stain Remover. You'll probably find it in a pet store since it's sold for cleaning up after pet messes, but I've had pretty good luck with it for other types of stains too. I was bringing some chili to work for a pot luck one time and spilled some of it on the carpet. Petastic really did a good job on it.

Good old washing up liquid, a little water, and a broad nail brush.

It shifts all the grease and stains in seconds. Then wipe over with an old dry towel and leave to dry.

Works for me every time, and doesn't cost a penny.

Here's the car cleaning page I use when I've got messes in the car. These tips also can be used for upholstery, seats, carpeting and mats.

If you've got a carpet shampooer with an upholstery attachment use that. That's what I used to use on the seats of my ex-wife's minivan.
