Do you ever think of Martial Arts as music?

Your Instructor is the band director. Your instruction is your sheet music. Your body is your instrument & it is up to you to learn how to play it. Their are highs & lows of it but you just have to keep focus. You can be a humble flute or a cocky trumpet. You choose your place.

Have you ever thought of it that way? I heard a teacher once tell me everything is music..I think I know what she is saying now...

Just a way of thinking.....

Update:

I hear what Ya'll are saying. I had a person tell me once that their are dancers & then their are everyone else when it comes to sparring. The way you move your feet. Like it can be just plain bouncing or you can have an art to it where you're almost flying.

The sounds of people punching bags & the pitter-patter of feet is interesting "music". It makes me get more adrenaline like the first person said. It's weird how the human body works.

Update 2:

I am a girl therefore I am not gay. & I am not that word. I am a mixed race though.

Grow up. & God Bless you apparently.

I don't think you are too far off. After all, what is music if not the beat or rhythm combined with the silent intervals that we instinctively find natural? Combat has a beat and feel. And just as a musical piece that does not flow to a certain beat sounds unpleasant or discordant, so is the movement and flow of a martial artist seem unnatural or clumsy if it is not done correctly.

In music you can hear the flow, in martial art you can see and feel it. If you compare a neophyte to a master in martial art, you can clearly see how disjointed the movements of one and the smooth seamlessness of the other.

Interesting observation. Looking back on the MA teachers I had, everyone of them could play some form of musical instrument.

I understand exactly what ur talking about but i see it more as a rap battle. Ur Forms(Katas) are ur vocabulary. The more versed u are and the bigger ur vocabulary is gives u an edge over ur opponent. U start off with simple moves and progress to more complex ones. With enough practice and knowledge of body mechanics u can almost anticipate what ur oppenant will do.

Maybe if you love to involve yourself in Martial Arts, then it's better if you practice Capoeira.

This is the forms that combine the elements of Martial Arts, music and dance, this is the direct descendants of African fighting style, which being combined with Brazilian dance.

    Good luck

    lmao i like this man!

i don't think of martial arts as music like you but i do here music when i participate in it. when im over reacting and trying to hard i hear a crazy orchestra im my mind. when im relaxing i here DUBSTEP OR DRUM AND BASS! lmao...things come out so amazing when i just become like the music in my head...it calms me and i become in-tune with all things.

also i love it when in a dojo, at a certain time, all you hear is the snapping of gi's and kiahs. you hear the stomping of feet, pivoting of feet, rolling and thumping of bodies. it makes its own music to me. i can jam to it allllll dayyyy man...its really the sound track of my life man. the twisting of bodies, the heavy breathing, the frustration...its really great sounds and when they work together you really get the essence of the spirit of a dojo. you really understand what it means to be a martial artist in those moments ....

No, I haven't (though I do think it's an interesting analogy) - there have been a couple of times, though, when it's almost seemed like a dance to me.
