Printers and Computers Question..Please help....?

This is probably a stupid question, but I'll take a stab at it anyway. I have a printer (hp deskjet 5940), which I used for my old laptop. It is not compatible with my new laptop, however, because the latter has Windows Vista on it. My question is, can I somehow make it compatible? Is there something I can download to make this work?

Sure.. it will more than likely work for you.

I just went to the HP website at www.hp.com and the DRIVERS & SOFTWARE are there for your version of windows on your new laptop.

    Just go there..... http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategor...

Put in the model of your printer as deskjet 5940

    then choose your needed software.

I've had the SAME problem but no laptop, computer instead. What lesson did I learn : NEVER BUY HP printers because they have bad tech support.

Anyways, after a nerveracking 6 hours on the phone, making calls to HP (dam u HP!), and after none of the technicians offered any help and suggested i buy a new computer (how dare they) and after tapering around my computer I found solution, with no help to those idiots.

sorry for letting my anger out.

OK. So here's how I did it:

It might work for your laptop too:

1.Connect your Printer with the USB plug that they gave you

    2. Click Start, Control Panel

    3. Click Printer and faxes

    4. Click on Add New Printer

    5. Then, if my memory serves me right, you click advanced options and there will be a list of things. You need to check the box that says either " Hewlett packard" or "HP" deskjet. uhmmm, just look around for the one that has your printer model 5940. FOr me (hp deskjet 920) it was's like # 9c.

    6. I'm sorry I really don't remeber the steps form here. But I think it should automatically start installing. I just played around on the "add new printer" panel (step 4) and somehow I managed to get the printer working but somewhere along the line I know I did step 5 also.

    uhmm. GOOD LUCK.

Test out document from word and see if it prints.

If not, i don't know, you can email me and I'll try to help.

Source(s): I have Windows service pack 1and my HP printer required service pk2 or higher. AND when I told this to my HP technician, he says why don't you buy a new computer with Service pk2 and then he tries to sell me HP computers. What a jerk.
