John Adams was the vice president at that time.

Under the Articles of Confederation , there was no office of president, prime minister, king or anybody else in charge there was the president of the continental congress.
Only under the constitution of 1789 was an office of the president established. And the first person to bhold that polition was General george Washington (ret.) who served for 2 terms and refused to server again saying 2 terms was enough for any man.

John Hanson he served for one year after the signing of the articles of confederation in 1781.
eight yeas before George Washington was elected in 1789.
