How big are the halo rings in the halo video games?

Okay I started playing halo with halo 3 thinking that the giant halo rings were literally the size of a galaxy. But then i played halo 1 and saw that it wasn't even bigger than the planet next to it. So I ask these questions

1. How big are the halo rings?

2. Was that planet just really big or are they really big enough to fit around a galaxy?

3. If there not then how are they able to kill all life on earth if they don't surround it?

Thanx in advance. I know I'm a bit of a nerd lol.

    1. 10,000 km in diameter (slightly smaller than Earth, which is 12,753 km).

    2. What planet are you talking about? The Ark in Halo 3? The Ark is quite large (127,530 km, which, if you're paying attention, is 10 times the diameter of Earth). There are 7 ring installations plus the Ark. All 7 installations are spread out throughout the galaxy.

    3. When activated, the Halo rings would wipe out all sentient life within three radii of the Milky Way Galaxy's center by sending out a harmonic frequency, targeting certain cells in the nervous system, which includes, but is not limited to, neurons. The system was designed to wipe out sentient life as a "last resort" (against the Flood).

    1. How big are the halo rings?

    - Around the size of an average planet.

    2. Was that planet just really big or are they really big enough to fit around a galaxy?

    - No, they are not big enough to fit around a galaxy, the planet I'd assume is around the size of Jupiter, maybe a little larger. The idea of having 7 halo rings is because all 7 are needed to reach every part of our galaxy.

    3. If there not then how are they able to kill all life on earth if they don't surround it?

    - Actually, it was designed to wipe out all life in the galaxy. As I said before, 7 halo rings use their blast radius to destroy all life in the galaxy.

If you are really interested in learning more about the Halo rings, look up "Halo Legends Origins" on you-tube. It details the how and why of the rings creation, as well as giving us the majority of our knowledge of the Forerunners, the people who made the rings.

Grey got it mostly right. 7 rings places around the galixy at certain spots. When set of all at one they produce a wave that covers everything. There about as big as a planet (depending on what planet you compare to them). They fire with such power that they can easerly reach even the most outer planets.

Alright, the rings range in dialmeter, I believe the first was the size of Earth. How they work is they send out a pulse that kills sentient life, unsure exactly what it is. The range of this "death pulse" reaches to the next ring, tells it to set off, and since they are spread around the universe, they will take out all sentient life.

Yes there bigger than earth. they can kill earth cause they blow up and cause a reactive explosion on all the planets
