Is the first semester of senior year when you're supposed to apply to colleges?
I am so confused, I don't know what to do.
I will be senior starting tomorrow and (this being news to me) the first semester is spent applying to colleges. I dont even know which college I want to go to or for what!
How am I supposed to apply to colleges if i'm not even sure what i want my career to be?

I'll keep this simple. If you're this stressed, go see your counselor at your high school. That's what they're there for and they WILL help, I promise! Most all schools have some form of college fair where colleges either come and talk to seniors or it's one big gathering of a ton of schools with a bunch of information. You could also go online, pick some colleges out that you like and request info from them, they'll send you a packet of stuff. If you're able to, take some campus visits and see what the campus is like, that will help a lot too.
As for your actual career, I wouldn't worry too much about that, most people honestly change their major at least once in their career (earlier is better however). You will take classes you'll love and classes you'll hate, it happens and that's how you find your major.
I would definitely talk with the counselor though, because they have information and they've done this for students that have come before you and will continue to help those that are after you, it's normal.
Hope this helps!

Most people get started the first semester, yes, generally I would suggest having it done by Halloween to be super early or Christmas to be just on time and still get the best chance. Admission will be easier for you the earlier you apply. Make a list of qualities you would want in a school, then start looking for schools in your area the meet your qualifications (unless you really want to move to like some other part of the country/world) try to get some close enough that you can visit to see if you like the feel. It's important that you pick a school where you'll fit in.
If you don't know what to study you could always go to a community college to explore your options, but I would personally go to a four year college anyway. Most schools don't have you technically declare a major until your second year, so it doesn't really matter if you don't know what you want to study going in. Your first year is supposed to be spent exploring the school and yourself to figure out what you want. I would suggest going to a school with a lot of options so you can really take a look at everything before deciding.

Hi there,
Yes, ideally college-bound seniors should be applying in their first semester. It is best to apply early to all of your college choices.
Follow this schedule:
Halloween (October 31st) - Apply to your favorites and dream schools.
Thanksgiving (November 25th) - Apply to the colleges that you have a fair shot at getting into.
Christmas (December 25th) - Apply to your safety schools.
By 2011, all you have to do is wait for the acceptance letters.
Don't worry so much on what career path you will take on after college. Everything will fall into place once you get there.
This is your time to shine -- so do it! Good luck!

Go on line to different colleges and see when their deadline is. Most are January 1, 2011. You should of been going on college visits last year. Your first two years are mostly taking general eds classes. You do not have to declare a major till sophomore year.
go to your public library and do some research. check out the magazine Newsweek How To Get Into College 2011.

Yes, there are colleges that have early admission as early as the summer, other early applications are due in Oct-Dec. I wouldn't worry now about what you to study in college, but to narrow down your college choices think about location, campus size, and other interests you may have. You don't have to choose a career field right away take some time while in college to decide what you like.

YUP - delaying the application process just diminishes the opportunity of being accepted anywhere.
Perhaps, instead of spending the last year chasing boys and all summer goofing off, you should have had your mind on more important matters. This shouldn't have been new news for anyone not in a coma.
