How long does it take for a Yorkie's coat to grow out after it's cut short?

We made the mistake of keeping our Yorkie puppy in a t-shirt for awhile because it was cold. Her coat got very matted, so matted in fact that the groomer didn't want to comb them out and had to trim her very, very short. She looks like a little rat! LOL

Of course we loved her beautiful coat. Do you know how long it will take to grow it out again? Thanks!

Now you know why its important to keep your yorkie well brushed especially when they have a long coat- they really need to be brushed out daily when they are kept long. When it is matted like that especially it is very painful- like having someone constantly yanking hard on your ponytail. It can also cause skin infections and makes it impossible to notice injuries.

The coat can take months and sometimes years to grow back and probably will if you want it to get to the point where it was. How fast depends on the dog- sometimes dogs will take longer to grow their coats back usually for health related reasons.

depending on how short it was cut, how long you want it to grow back out, and how fast your dog's hair grows.. it can take up to 2 years to achieve full length.

1-3 months on average, but it can definitely vary a lot.

at least 5 weeks depends on how fast she grows. needs combing every day.

  • .... utterly unfounded guesswork on my part here: "7 months"

(based on my guess for a human hairgrowth / length for 'comparable results ... also guessing)
