Will Photoshop work on a mac?

I am hoping to buy a macbook pro 15" soon. I also need to be able to run photoshop on this. I have seen mac's using photoshop, so obviously there is some way of getting it to run. My question is, does a mac need a MAC version of photoshop to install and run, or is the same version of Photoshop CS3 that i'm currently using on my netbook (apalling performance!) able to run / install on a mac.

Some programs such as word need a mac version, whereas others such as Starcraft 2 are for both os's.

I also haven't found a photoshop CS3 for mac only edition, so before i buy my mac i need to know this!

Update:

The edition I have is an extended version of CS3 licenced to a university (so it can have virtually unlimited instillations) but it's not a commercial copy - therefore it may not have the mac version...

Most professionals who use Photoshop for their work are probably using Macs because Macs are favoured in the creative industries, but yes, you need a Mac version of the app. A PC version will not work on Mac OS.

Since you are buying a new Mac, You also need to make sure that the version you get will work on the latest Mac OS (Snow Leopard). CS5 definitely will, I think a fully up-to-date CS4 will too (don't quote me on that). Not sure about CS3.

Yes you need a Mac version.

What happens with some software is that both versions are made available on the discs that the software publisher produces. Also, some software serial numbers are not platform dependent but Adobe products historically are specific to each platform (i.e., a Mac serial number will not work on a PC and vice versa).

    Yes.

It works better than PC on a mac
