Is it possible that a deity exists?

Let's start with this http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201008...

I know that I do not believe there is a God, but I am willing to accept that beyond all probability, it is possible that an entity with God-like powers exists within our universe. I would have to accept that if it exists then it either does not know about man's plight or simply doesn't care.

I think that almost all Atheists will be of the same view that although improbable, a deity may exist, just not as advertised by the major religions. This has lead me to the conclusion that Atheist (I don't believe in God) and Agnostic (I can't disprove God) are two terms that can be used to describe the different views of the same person. Any intelligent views welcome. Any childish/uneducated views will be ridiculed. Blatant abuse will be reported.

Update:

@ The Space Kitth - Did you even read the question? If you did, then why did you not make even the slightest attempt at answering it?

Update 2:

@ Shanaynay - If you choose to believe in God, then you imply that you have the choice not to, which would indicate that you have doubt, ergo you do not believe, you suspect. Sorry.

Update 3:

@ The Reverend Soleil - Yes, the God of the Bible is paradoxical and cannot exist. This is why I used the term "entity with God like powers."

Update 4:

@ K. Plesner - One of my favourite quotes.

Update 5:

@ Sue - Your mother and father made you. Your family and community are to blame for sculpting you. If God created everything then he is to blame for all the virus, bacteria and parasites that attack us, not forgetting wasps. Oh how I hate wasps.

Update 6:

@ laduni, seeker of jehovah, olderman - Please see response to The Space Kitth above.

In my view atheism is inherently partially agnostic, as we believe what the evidence supports, evidence supporting a Deity is not out of the realm of possibility.

Also in my view if evidence did happen to arise too suggest that a Deity exists we would be poor atheists to not at least assess it based upon its merits.

Comprehending your position is not difficult for me. It seems reasonable to question God's interest when one observes the suffering of people who are clearly innocent.

Yet, I know that God is real.

I'm willing to bet you have heard the argument that life as we know it defies all probability. Our being cannot be the result of random interaction of matter. So how can one conclude that creation could come into being by any other means that the will of God? I submit this as a reasonable thought but, admittedly, this proves nothing.

The best evidence for God is in the perfection of the proving grounds this world provides for the souls here in. The best proof that God is involved and caring is in the Gospel of the New Testament. The only means to hope in this world is trusting in God. Faith, is yours for the asking.

I don't believe in a god either. The closest I can get to a belief in something supernatural would be this famous quote from Arthur C. Clarke: 'Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.'

If we ever get into contact with alien life forms, they may very well appear to be supernatural.

In my mind a lot of the supernatural things found in most of the widespread religions are stories made up to explain things which couldn't be explained at the time.

    What the Big Bang Explains—

    What It Doesn't

EVERY morning is a miracle. Deep inside the morning sun, hydrogen is being fused into helium at temperatures of millions of degrees. X rays and gamma rays of incredible violence are pouring out of the core into the surrounding layers of the sun. If the sun were transparent, these rays would blast their way to the surface in a few searing seconds. Instead, they begin to bounce from tightly packed atom to atom of solar "insulation," gradually losing energy. Days, weeks, centuries, pass. Thousands of years later, that once deadly radiation finally emerges from the sun's surface as a gentle shower of yellow light—no longer a menace but just right for bathing earth with its warmth.

This subject of God is a natural innate capacity that was inside us in the knowledge of our "life". Every living soul will come to that conclusion to seek the presence of God. But why some was so difficult to realize it with an understanding was due to the chemical energy from the craving of "desire" carbon dioxide that had clouded our heart where the light shines. We need to polish it crystal clear for the light to penetrate through.

The conscience of "believe" which is the basic capacity of our electrical energy was where the "mind" came to realize the knowledge of our life to realm with an understanding. The acquired knowledge of learning from our five senses will boost the energy level to stand firm with some "faith" of a belief. This however need to be enhanced with vigorous attempt of faithful and sincere effort to believe the where about of such presence.

Faith which is belief in the absence of evidence relied so much on the knowledge of comprehension that you gained from your own effort to retrieve it from inside you. This world is full of distraction to mislead you. You can never find God out there.

    I would say agnostic.

You have the commonsense to see creative intelligence in the design of the universe. The complexity, magnitude, beauty, dynamic, living ,breathing, awesome, majestic, brilliant

observation of the universe. I just daily look at what l was born into and l am just 'gobsmacked' at the brilliance of such a place. The smell of the flowers , the sound of the birds and insects, the distance to the nearest star, atoms we cannot see, unseen gamma rays, glimpses of a spirit world. We have just a glimpse of the total knowledge of the whole universe which is God. He is all and is in all.

Things breath and live...Just mind blowing.. And God had it in His mind to make ME!!

I would bow down and worship Him any day!!!!!

I am a polytheist, so I believe there are gods that exist, but I have to say that I doubt any of us humans can possess a knowledge of who they are, I believe they are in different dimensions and only communicate with us through our subconscious, we don't understand our subconscious yet, so it is impossible to understand what any god wants from us or if they even want anything at all.

Depends on how we're going to define "god" -- but the omnipotent, omniscient God of the Bible is inherently self-refuting.

Yes, (nearly) everything is possible. We use the available evidence to determine what is probable, which is a more interesting proposition.
