I have 5 corns and a royal - for a first time snake, corns are the much better choice.
Royals are notoriously picky feeders, and you could potentially end up having to feed live.
Live rodents can cause A LOT of damage to snakes, and even kill them.
They are also pretty sensitive animals; too much handling and incorrect setups can really badly stress them outRoyals have much better heads and teeth, so if your pet did decide to bite you - speaking from experience here - trust me, you'd be better off being bitten by the corn than the royal.
While the pythons are biiger by girth, the corn snakes are actually more likely to grow longer so they would not need a bigger tank.
Both species become very docile with enough handling and grow to a managable size (>6ft).
Corns are more active than royals and so are more interesting to watch and handle.
While there is no doubt that royal morphs are absolutely stunning, be prepared to shell out several thousands of pounds or dollars for the higher end morphs. Even the lower end morphs cost several hundred $/£. Corns are much cheaper to buy, come in a wider varierty of affordable morphs and are cheaper to keep too since they can happily eat mice all their lives, while the pythons should eventually move up to more expensive rats.
I prefer the corns, and really do believe that they make the best starter snakes :)

Hello, both of these snakes are excellent pets. The ball python stays relatively small and is usually very docile. Make sure the ball pythons are captive born babies. The corn snakes are super hardy and fun, both species of snake come in many color morphs and are priced by that. Go to your local newspaper classifieds or local animal shelter there are many who need good homes. Most important issue is feeding and then not handling for at least twelve hours. Wash your hands off if you have held a rodent, dog, cat, bird to prevent you from being bitten in error. Both species are great for pets and families.

Well, if you want an easy time of it, go for the corn snake.
If you want a huge variety of morphs, without paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars, go for the corn snake.
If you're going to get stressed out majorly if your snake stops eating, go for the corn snake.
Ball pythons are gorgeous snakes and they ARE suitable for beginners but you will need to do more research. I am glad I got a corn snake first, they are so much less fuss to care for. And you get a huge variety of different colours for under 100 bucks. Most of the python morphs still cost a lot more.

Ball pythons get bigger and will need a bigger tank. They can also be picky eaters. Corn snakes do not get as big and are more reliable eaters. I own one of each by the way. I got my corn snake first. Both are great beginners snakes so it is up to you. Corn snakes are also available in more morphs and are not as expensive. That's not to say that there aren't as many ball python morphs but they can be expensive. Hope this helped.

I would get a ball python just because I think they are cooler and you should go to a reptile show if you want to know all of the different morphs.

corn snakes are much easier, and less of a risk of them having feeding problems. I love them!!!

Both are GREAT beginner animals. I'd get whichever you like better, however, do keep in mind that Ball Pythons are sometimes a little pickier about food and are larger animals, so need bigger cages. Ultimately, get whichever YOU like better, not what people online tell you to get.

If you are going to do that stick to the native species please.
