Should I put trees in this background or keep it as is?

http://s300.photobucket.com/albums/nn34/LShreck/?a...

It's watercolor so adding in trees would make them sort of shadowy and dark, and I know I'd have to add them in pretty high because of fitting in their shadows. I also figure that plenty of the background will be covered by a mat, since the girls would fit in a 5 x 7 frame and the paper's just over 8 x 10.

Thanks, I just couldn't decide and my mom (a traditionalist) thinks trees should be added, but my friend (way into abstract and really edgy art) says its better as is.

I think you should leave it as-is.

It looks wonderful without any trees. :) The focal point is perfect and I think by adding trees you may distract from the beautiful "light" area.

The picture looks ok as it is but if you wanted to add trees, simply use small brush strokes of short lines ( either black or gray) to the bottom of each cloud-like dark shape in the background at the bottom wherever you think trees should be. That's all it would take to make trees appear far-off in the background. You did a nice job on the figures by the way.
