Make-up help! (MAC?)?

I'm really not very good with make-up, and have gone all summer without it, but classes have started again, and I feel the need to use it again.

I have two problems: one is that foundation always feels heavy after a few hours. I have pretty oily skin, but even if I use a toner, I still feel gross at the end of the day. It just feels like a mask, and I hate to touch my face when it feels like that. I want to just rush home and wipe it off.

The other problem is eyeliner. I've been trying for 10 years to find one that actually stays on my eyes, I've tried every drug-store brand and type, and it always ends up smudging. I've tried liquid before, but I sort of hate it, because I wear contacts and it's difficult to wear with them. I also don't like the 'slick' look that it gives. I like the pencil look better.

So my question is: should I try to invest in something nicer, like MAC cosmetics? Would that make the makeup seem lighter on my face? Is their eyeliner better?

Mind you, I'm a broke college student, so if you have any cheaper ideas, please let me know. Thanks!

The heavy feeling you get from foundation can come either from the foundation itself of the way that you're applying makeup. Just switching to MAC most likely won't fix the problem because some foundations are just generally heavy feeling (like a lot of MAC foundations are). Using a stippling brush or a damp sponge would help out a lot because they don't pick up a ton of product so it's a bit easier to get that light finish. If you're really determined to try MAC foundations, try Face and Body. It's one of the lighter feeling foundations and gives a lighter amount of coverage.

For eyeliner, if you like the look of pencil over the bold look of liquid you really do have to just get a better quality pencil. Kohl pencils tend to be really soft, so the smudge more easily, so I'd avoid those and since you're interested in MAC products, I'd say try either the regular eye pencil or the powerpoint eye pencil (most likely the powerpoint eye pencil, it's waterproof). And if you really want to keep it secure you can try going over it with a matte black eyeshadow or whatever color you're using (this can work with a cheaper pencil too to help it stay).

    Good luck!

I've got a great answer to your eyeliner problem, Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes. It's a water resistant eyeliner that has amazing staying power, it's pricier than drug store brands but so worth it just to not have to worry about it. I know that a make up guru even went in a sauna with that and their waterproof mascara on and it didnt move.

I have oily skin too, I always use a primer as it does keep the oil away for a little longer and I do a powder touch up once or twice a day. It's even more difficult for me as I work part time in a restaurant so it gets really hot but I can't look oily in front of customers. So I've actually invested in Chanel foundation, which I know some people think is too much to spend on foundation (£30) but I have to apply it less as it stays on better so it's not so bad.

But I also get that groggy, heavy feeling at the end of the day but only when it gets to about 9pm. But powder tends to save me, I use MAC Blot Powder as it's pressed and easy to travel with but I think their Prep and Prime powder is better it's just hard to travel with.

okay well is the eyeliner for on your water line? if it is then just apply tour eye liner then use an angled eye brush and black shadow and put that on the waterline after. i do this and it lasts all day. okay so normally a more expensive foundation could last longer, but have you tried revlon colourstay? this is the most amazing drugstore foundation, and you can get it for oily skin,if you have tried this and it doesnt work, then yes buy something more expensive. i have oily skin too and the thing that helps bad foundations stay on for me is MACS mineralized skin finish. this stuff really is amazing. (: hope you find some products you like (:

To answer about your eyeliner problem, while I love MAC eyeshadow and lip gloss, I don't like their pencil eyeliners. They get too smudgey, I find.

I really like Maybelline's pencil liners. I use they're "Brownish Black". You can get it at any drugstore and it is way cheaper than MAC.

My friend uses MAC's gel eyeliner, but it gives a similar look to their liquid eyeliner (which I have), but you aren't going for that look. So I would reccomend Maybelline!

i'd be at liberty that would want to help you opt for MAC eyeshadows. because you probably did not furnish your epidermis, hair, or eye colour, i provides you with innovations which will healthy all epidermis shades. you ought to get 2 shades suitable off the bat: a spotlight and also a contouring colour - once you get those out of how, you'll get just about any colour to flow in between. For spotlight shades, you want something lighter than your epidermis colour and something both matte or velvet. Rice Paper is a nude impartial colour that would properly be utilized less than your foreheadbone for someone who has a really ordinary to deep complexion. Gesso is a bright white colour which will be used very gently to operate a spotlight. For ordinary epidermis, my all time well-known colour of eyeshadow (as a spotlight) is Brule. next, you'll opt to opt for on a contour colour which will upload intensity on your eyes. %. a brown, any brown - yet one which's no longer too darkish. opt for a matte brown because it's going to seem more beneficial organic. i'd flow with Cork once you've ordinary epidermis to medium epidermis, or espresso for deep skintones. Now....the following is the exciting section! choosing a colour to play with. Do you want something shimmery? Or something diffused and quiet? in case you want something that has a POP to it...%. out Goldmine, Paradisco, or Hepcat. in case you want something quiet and sweet, opt for Haux, Digit, or Sable. Now for software: practice the spotlight colour less than your foreheadbone and combine it somewhat downward. employing a tapered brush, practice the contour colour on your crease. And very last, sweep the exciting colour throughout your lid and as a lot because the crease. gently blend the crease colour and the exciting colour at the same time. have exciting! :)
