Can anybody clear my doubt on ""TOP CONTRIBUTOR" awarded by Y/A?

Y/A is awarding "TOP CONTRIBUTOR" to a person who has given maximum Best Answers.

In my point of view, a person, who has asked maximum number of questions in a particular section should be awarded the "TOP CONTRIBUTOR" Tag as he is going behind knowledge seeking and knowing the views and comments of other people.

Giving "TOP CONTRIBUTOR" to a person getting maximum Best Answers means that he has sufficient knowledge on that section WHERE THE MAIN MOTTO OF Y/A IS DEFEATED as it is a "KNOWLEDGE SEEKING FORUM".

This is my humble view point.

May I know the views of our learned members on this ???

Update:

@@Raj Kish, My dear friend, I have also the same experience. Twiceor thirce I got that ""TC" tag, then it gone vanished. That's why this question.

Hahaha Mr Bull, u seem to be unclear with the concept of ''Top Contributor''...

It is NOT awarded to someone who has MAX BEST ANSWERS...

IT IS AWARDED TO PEOPLE WHO ARE THOROUGHLY REGUALR IN A SECTION...

    SALIENT FEATURES ARE

    1) A MINIMUM OF 15% BEST ANSWERS

    2) ATLEAST 3 QUESTIONS FROM THE SECTION EVERYDAY FOR A MINIMUM OF 3 WEEKS TILL THE ''TOP CONTRIBUTOR TAG IS AWARDED

    3) MAINTAINING A MINIMUM OF 2 ANSWERS PER DAY TO 3-4 ANSWERS IN 3-4 DAYS A WEEK AFTER THE ''TOP CONTRIBUTOR'' TAG IS GIVEN..AND MAINTAINING THAT..

    4) NUMBER OF ANSWERS AWARDED AS ''BEST ANSWERS'' WITH THE ''RATING'' (3-4 RATING ON AN AVG...)....IT MEANS THE ASKER NEEDS TO AWARD U AND NOT THE VOTERS.... THE ASKER AWARDS U A HIGHER RATING, THE MORE THE CHANCES (EVEN 15% BEST ANSWER IS OKAY...U DONT NEED 60% BEST ANSWERS...)

I HAVE MANY CONTACTS WHO HAVE ''TOP CONTRIBUTOR'' WITH LESS THAN 20% BEST ANSWERS AND MANY WHO DONT HAVE ''TOP CONTRIBUTOR'' WITH MORE THAN 50%...

I HAVE LOST ''TOP CONTRIBUTOR'' MANY TIMES EVEN AFTER MAINTAINING AN ABOVE 50% BEST ANSWERS AND 2 OF MY PROFILES BEFORE THIS ONE WERE DELETED BY YAHOO EVEN WHEN THEY HAD ''TOP CONTRIBUTOR'' TAG...

SO TRY TO CHOOSE A SECTION AND BE REGUALR THERE FOR A LONG TIME, THEN YOU'LL GET SOME TIME BEFORE U LOSE THE TAG AGAIN.... (Say for example, i'm 6th BEST ANSWERER in the YAHOO ANSWERS USA - Other India...& NO- 4th in Other Destinations... http://answers.yahoo.com/dir/index;_ylt=Ai5RygCPLq... -- look at the right corner... Even with that, if i leave answering for say a month, my 'Top Contributor' tag will go.... If i'm at a lower level say at No 8 or No 9, i can leave for 15 days and i'll lose the tag...So on..

If u Visit the ''Camera'' section, the guy on the top i ''Fotoace'' 12300 best answers but even when he left for some time, he lost his ''top contributor'' tag...)

YAHOO has a FULL PROOF system... The only thing is it doesnt ''mention'' how the system works... when u are ASKING A QUESTION, YOU ARE CLEARING A PERSONAL DOUBT..U MIGHT HAVE AN INTERESTING QUESTION WITH 100 STARS BUT THAT DOESNOT MAKE U ''CONTRIBUTE-A-HELP'' TO THE SOCIETY...VERY OFTEN WE SEE 1 PERSON ASKS A QUESTION, NEXT PERSON ASKS THE SAME QUESTION EVEN WITHOUT READING WHAT HAS BEEN ANSWERED FOR THE LAST QUESTION...( eg BEFORE POSTING THIS QUESTION HAVE U ''RESEARCHED'' WHETHER THIS QUESTION WAS ASKED EARLIER OR NOT''..??? NO U DIDNT, PEOPLE ARE IN A RACE TO ASK THEIR OWN QUESTION WITHOUT EVEN READING IF THE SAME QUESTION WAS POSTED BEFORE, SO HOW IS THAT ''CONTRIBUTING'' TO ANWTHIG OTHER THAN ''QUESTION-MASS'' IN THE YAHOO DATABASE..??? )

    http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_result;_ylt...

(I now have 'Top contributor Tag for only Other_Destinations & Other_India -Yahoo USA with over 300 best asnwers...I have over 300 Best answers in Other_Europe too, but i lost the Top_Contributor Tag... I also lost for Anthropology..

My Previous 2 accounts were Top Contributors in ''Photograpy'' & Other Cultures & Groups respectively...

If this Account is deleted then i'll say Goodbye to Yahoo foreever... But chances are less, as i have figured out the 'Yahoo Working' by now....;) )

You know, this very question in itself is technically a violation of community guidelines. While I can see you are simply expressing your point of view, the manner, wording and tone in which you are expressing it is clearly geared towards inflaming and inciting others. If you have these concerns, and you're clearly not even asking a question more then ranting, (violation number 2) you need to be taking that up with YA and not on here. Saying what you are saying is nothing many don't already know and one of the biggest reasons I direct people to other forums where "voting" and popularity don't deter from actually sharing and gaining knowledge. This place, no matter how well the answers are put never accomplishes that as to the very things you've pointed out. If YA were truly interested in a system made to promote accurate information exchange, and not something made that everyone who's allowed on the internet without parental supervision can be an "expert", then they wouldn't even have a voting system, which I personally do not like. Voting is no way able to determine a best answer, it's simply an answer that's "popular" is all. I could just as well answer a question of "what color is the moon?" and say white, and have someone say blue, totally inaccurate, yet have 10,000,000 contact friends that will vote for him. My point there is, the votes can support every wrong answer as much as the right one and the whole system should be eliminated. While even an asker can pick what they WANT to hear vs what the truth is, at least it eliminates the vote hogs like you are saying. This isn't nothing I haven't already brought up in the main forum of yahoo itself but noone there wants to hear or believe in that anyways. That fact you are using a level 1 id, brand new leads me to think this isn't your main ID. I'm not going to state that as a fact, but when you say that "I have come here for answers. What I see is childish ego wars and people who know very little getting notoriety." and discover this "amazing secret" many have known a long time so fast, tells me you aren't new to this YA thing. While this place is far from perfect, I really dislike people that hide under a different ID to say or ask something they are afraid their higher ranked ID's would get penalized for. So once again, all any one individual can do is to simply answer what you know, and try. When that falls on deaf ears, trolls cause more disruptions to boost their overwheeming online ego's, and others just plain don't even know what they are talking about, there's really no reason not to direct an asker who clearly is looking for information, to a more professional forum that has live moderators to weed out the garbage and riff raff.

The TC badge is awarded not merely on the basis of the maximum number of BAs.There must be other parameters as well which are not informed or indicated to the users. One fine morning you would be surprised that you have been awarded the TC badge. And before you can bask in the glory of having been chosen as the TC,it is yanked leaving not just egg on your face but with the most idiotic and stupid smile with you trying to explain to friends as to what happened.Haven't you heard of the old quote,to wit,"Inscrutable are the ways of GOD"?That would be applicable to the guys at Yahoo who sit in judgment and think that they are the Gods. These guys dish out freely violation notices quoting Community Guidelines which have now become so archaic that they may even be termed as "PRUDISH".While I agree that even Askers deserve the TC tag, tell me honestly whether you are sorry that you have not been awarded a TC badge.I am sure that you with your experience and expertise have contributed to Y ! A more than most TC tag holders.I have had TC badges for four categories in my previous avatars.I have crossed all that stage of initial thrill. Now all I concentrate is on giving crisp, even terse and above all responses which reflect my strong views but with no rancor or enmity.Where possible I like to spice my answers with a touch of humor.More than the tag,I was extremely gratified and proud when a user even went to the extent of dubbing me

"A Modern Day Bernard Shaw".And compared to that type of praise a thousand TC badges would stand nowhere. Recognition of ones talents should come from fellow users/peers rather than from a bunch of characters who proclaim themselves as "Know-it-all".And that counts for not only something but a whole lot. These are what will swell ones heart with rightful pride.

    Have a Magnificent Day.

    I agree

See the way they provide TC Badge is not transparent. Few months back when I joined this forum I was mostly active in Travel>Other India section. Within 1 month I got the TC badge, though I was not in the top 10 list after that I explored more sections and hence started answering questions from other sections but still not left the Other India section completely. Now my name appears at 6 position in other India section but still I don't have the TC badge.

    http://in.answers.yahoo.com/dir/index;_ylt=AvSELf....

I'm not saying that I want TC Badge but I want to tell u how bad transparency of Y!Answers is. Here some people who are at still level 2 get TC badge and some who have even crossed level 7 still don't get it.

lol..I agree to Travel Oracle.. asking doesnt make u ''Contribute''..

Take your ''mouse cursor'' over some Top Contributor badge...It'll give u the Definition of 'Top contributor''..

Top Contributor is given to people ''Who Is Knowledgable in a particular catagory'' is Yahoo Definition...

If u stop answering, it means you dont have enough knowledge to answer... Asking question in no way makes u knowledgable...It makes u look more stupid/foolish....

I wish Yahoo Had some ''TOP CONTRIBUTED'' (not Top Contributor) Tag for people who ask more questions....

Guruji, you asked answers from the learned members. Though i am not so learned, i give answer what i known and learned from you. your question is extremely super one. i have given nearly more than 800 questions in religious category. The yahoo did not take my contribution whereas yesterday rained and today mulaichedhellam getting titles. This is a sad to me. why this partiality ? The askers wasting their energies, thinking a lot fearing criticism, using themselves as a ladder for others to learn more on subjects, they not only learning but also getting 2 point for answering and 10 points on selection of BA. Thus if they give 20 best answers of some more in a particular category, they get top contributor title. The askers putting kattai viral in the mouth seeing them wonderfully. we the askers are the reasons for them, but we are not given any at least ''contributor'' not '' top '' title. In English religious category one will get '' top answerer '' only if they give 4000 best answers and above, but in our indian religious category, they get in the list for just 300 best answers. why difference in english and indian ? These are debatable. Anyway, i can not be silent on a best question floated and hence attended. Really, when i find some it is irritating me. All know my contribution from religious, moral, general, fun etc.,i am doing maximum without any recognition. Thanks for the first great voice on this subject.

'' shashtanga Namashkaram '' your fav one.

  • While I get your point, it is very difficult to implement practically because anyone asking a number of questions like 'What is 1+1?' will get the same badge as someone who has shared his wealth of knowledge by giving very good answers!

Getting a best answer is a true indicator of your knowledge and contribution. The system you suggest can help one get a badge by asking a number of silly questions, but the current system allows neither silly questions nor silly answers to let one get a badge.

    The current system is satisfactory.

    Well!!!!!

Both should be awarded Top Contributors!!

But, the real fact is that the title "Top Contributor" misguides people sometimes.

There are few trolls who use their multiple identities to ask Question on themselves, answer the Questions and award best answers to themselves...

There by they indulge in POINT GAMING and increase their points multi fold.

Thats why you can see hardly few top contributors in S&M but, a wide list way here in R&S!!

They are the worst diseases available in this forum!!

Some thing should be done to GET RID OF THEM

That is the only WAY to cure Y!A

  • The reason for TC badge is hidden from users. I don't think it is purely based on best answers, answers or questions, it is mix of all of these. It is not transparent of us. I could not find any where on YA the way YA decides TC badge and awards to the users. And I think in one way it is good, so that users don't misuse it.
