Has anyone's toddler/infant run a fever between 99.9 and 101.8 as a result of teething?

I know most doctors and medical articles say that running a fever is not a result of teething but I have see some mothers/parents who disagree and say that their child ran a fever when they were teething either off and on or every round of teething. Has any other mother/parent had their kid run a fever between 99.9 and 101.8 when they were teething? My son had a 101.8 temperature last night and 99.9 this morning. No symptom of a cold at all but he has been chewing on his hands lately and refusing to eat as much as he usually does. Teething?

Also does anyone know what is considered to be a high enough fever to be seen by the doctor or urgent care/ER?

Yes, some babies run a slight fever when teething. Body temperature is an individual thing and some adults (and even babies like my son) run warmer than others. My son's doctor said that a temperature of 103 (in a baby over 6 months) is when it's urgent enough to be seen by a doc.

Our doctor always said to start meds at around 102 deg., unless the child was acting very lethargic. I think that mild temps can occur when teething. I would pay more attention to how the child is acting. Is he cranky or fussing more than usual? Does he not want to eat or want to eat all the time? I've always been told to not just look at the temp, but to look at the whole child. If he's playing normally, then he's probably just fine.

Also, to bring down a fever, I was told to alternate Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours (No less!). IE. Motrin at 4 pm, Tylenol at 8 pm, Motrin at 12 pm, Tylenol at 4 am. I would also give the child a lukewarm bath. The lukewarm water helps bring down a fever. Really, it's the room temperature water that helps, no hotter or colder. If the bath and meds don't work (I wouldn't go more than 12 hours on that switch of meds either- 2 doses of each, sometimes less- go with your gut), then I would take the child to the ER or Urgent Care center, or dr's office if the hours are right.

Teething toddlers have different symptoms. They get uncomfortable and fussy. That's the way it goes. Plenty of pediatricians say they have seen low fevers before while teething, but a 102 fever needs to be checked out immediately, it's unusual, and the doctor can check to see if your child has an infection that doesn't have anything to do with teething. In the meantime, try placing cool, damp rags on your daughters face. It will make her feel a little bit better. But, you really should see her pediatrician before it gets worse.

Yes, both my children have experienced fevers (light-mild) as a result from teething. My oldest also used to get the runs while teething (because of the excess salivation).

Anyways, it does annoy me how the medical literature says they are not related when millions of mothers worldwide report these symptoms as a result of teething. It is true, I have talked to many friends about this.

I think a fever of 103F requires tylenol, removing a layer of clothing and a luke warm bath...if a fever that high is persistent and doesn't come down with that treatment I'd definitely call the doctor or go to the ER. I would not worry about a 99F fever. I'd give him tylenol for the teething pain.

Yes but that is quite high. Give the child medication or call a doctor.
