Convince me that Kool G Rap ISN'T the GOAT?

Before I go off on my rant trying to convince you how he's the GOAT, my question is how is he NOT the greatest of all time? Convince me.. And don't bullsh*t me saying "there is no greatest of all time". Shut up, even emcees themselves cite certain heads as the greatest to ever do it. Stop trying to be different.

I can't think of many other emcees with the skill level of G Rap that have been around as long as him, have been as influential, haven't sold out, AND have remained consistent.

He has arguably the best discography of any artist that started emceein' in the 80's and is still spitting (Masta Ace probably does though). Out of 7 albums, none are less than 3.5/5. 3 (arguably 4) are classics.

Chances are, he influenced your favorite rapper. Wu-Tang Clan, O.C., Nas, Mobb Deep, Scarface, R.A. The Rugged Man, Vinnie Paz, Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch, Eminem, Kurupt, M.O.P, and Big Pun.

Among MANY others. Think about everyone he influenced. Now think about everyone they influenced. Now imagine hip hop without all of them. And imagine the East Coast without Mafioso rap. Not to mention he was one of the pioneers of multisyllabic rhymes.

I don't understand how he's not the overall greatest of all time. Some of people even said he's not the greatest out of New York. LMAO.

EDIT: As far as rap skill and lyricism goes, yes eminem & nas are the GOAT.

Talking about pioneers and influential rappers is a different matter

Cant argue with you bro he did influence alot of emcees Eastcoast rappers are always better than westcoast rappers lyrically and their Djs are so much more creative Kool G rap has been in the rap and he is still the GOAT **** what any1 says he is wayyyy better than any emcee that has been out recently no doubt especially better than lil wayne who ever says Lil wayne is the GOAT is a dick rider no lie

but no dick ridin nas n the Wu are still my favorite some atleast and Big L n Pun as well

All you mentioned was influence.Having great potential is not enough to consider one MC 'the greatest'. Great albums put out make you the greatest. You have plenty of rappers with overrall (notice:OVERRALL,so not only lyrics) better discographies than Kool G Rap, but that doesn't mean they could mess with him lyrically. As for me, GZA and especially Ghostface have better catalogues.

    Are You Serious...Half a Klip was 2.5/5

Yeah he was a great influence but there's no way he has 4 classics...Kool G Rap has 2 classics and one near classic...I have no idea where you pulling out 4 from...Half a Klip hurt the sh!t out of his GOAT credentials

Man....I hear you. It's good to know that someone else in this world is as blown away as I am. In my opinion, GRap can't even be compared to others because he is the standard. How someone can listen to Black Widow or Good Die Young and not be in complete awe is one of the many mysteries of life. I can be moved to tears listening and dissecting his rhyme scheme. His hardcore style , use of metaphors and similes is fu#$ing breathtaking. He doesn't rhyme words, he rhymes phrases.

Some people just can't comprehend this stuff and don't understand the accomplishment, skill, and technique uses. It's so easy to miss because he builds so seamlessly and smooth. In Allied Meta-Forces with Canibus , I felt that was like a stunt rhyme.

I use to think that Rakim was the best ..until I truly listened to GRap. He basically started so called 'gangsta rap' ..or as he says it -'***** , I'm the reason you thug". Just for the un- initiated , I'm leaving a few verses for consideration.

He's definately ONE of my all time fav's.

I like the old school stuff with DJ Polo. Recently I was bumpin "It's A Shame" from back in '96.

I definately see where you're comin from. Kool G is a king among kings.

He's a top 3 for sure but I'm not sure if I'd put him above Chuck D and Ice Cube which are my top 2.

Your point is valid but I lost all my respect when you said that he influenced Scarface. Don't ask me why, just go listen to "The Geto Boys" and "Mr. Scarface is Back", both of which came out before Kool G Rap's first gangsta rap album "Live and Let Die" and tell me it ain't the other way around.

Mafioso rap's blueprint is Scarface's first song ever, named "Scarface". Don't believe me, go check it out in youtube, it came out in 1988 before Kool G Rap was even talking about busting caps and messing with cocaine. But aside from this little mistake, everything else you said is valid and acceptable. From a technical view, KGR might be the greatest but the problem is, he hasn't really made much noise since 4,5,6 even if the albums following it up are all at least 3.5 like you said, they just don't have the replay value.

And lol @ the thumb down, can't accept the truth whoever you are? Want me to break it down fully? Alright.

Back in 1987, there was gangsta rap, started by Ice-T's "6 in the Morning" while there was also KRS-One with "9mm Goes Bang" and Schoolly D. In 1988, N.W.A took it to the next level and fully put gangsta rap on the map. In this time, Kool G Rap was busy with bragging about himself and his DJ with "It's a Demo". Scarface and Geto Boys weren't around at this time yet. But the next year, Scarface released a 12 inch single which contained "Scarface" a song later reused in Geto Boys' "Grip It! On That Other Level". In that song Scarface talks about being a coke dealer on top of the game killing off rivals. Not to mention, it features the first prominent use of Tony Montana samples (before that, guess who brought Tony Montana to hip-hop? That's right, Geto Boys!)

In 1989, Kool G Rap also did "Road to the Riches", which is his own story about mobsters and getting to the top. Other than this song, the whole album was Kool G bragging.

Geto Boys later made "Mind Playing Tricks"; which laid the foundation for anyone in hip-hop ever talking about paranoia and Scarface struck with "Mr. Scarface is Back", an album full of songs about being mentally insane, a heartless psychopath and having the "money and the power".

Kool G Rap, in the meanwhile, was studying all of this hard and came out with "Live and Let Die" in 92, to make the Geto Boys influence more obvious, he even offered Scarface and Bushwick a guest appearance in "Two 2 the Head". Elsewhere, Scarface's influence was no more obvious than on Kool G's songs "On the Run" (directly influenced by "Scarface" but instead centered around being a mob gang errand boy), "Edge of Sanity" (listen to "Born Killer" for it's influence, similarly Scarface performs a robbery but he's successful unlike G Rap who goes to jail), and easiest of all "Straight Jacket" (Mind Playing Tricks, need I say more? Just listen to all the horrible imagery they both face in the songs).

Kool G Rap made it explicit to be with mobs and therefore he's still the creator of mafioso rap, but you can't deny that Scarface was the first to come out with this type of rap.

You make a good argument. I guess if there's no Kool G there's no Nas,biggie,wu..etc I didn't start loving him till I got a lil older. Although he may not be MY number 1, I think you make a good argument that he could be GOAT overall
