Follow this free removal guide from bleepingcomputer. Try not to skip steps and follow the guide accordingly.

'The fake Microsoft Security Essentials Alert is a Trojan that attempts to trick you into thinking you are infected so that you will then install and purchase one of 5 rogue anti-virus programs that it is distributing.'

If you can't use the internet then see Step 2:

'It is possible that the infection you are trying to remove will not allow you to download files on the infected computer. If this is the case, then you will need to download the files requested in this guide on another computer and then transfer them to the infected computer. You can transfer the files via a CD/DVD, external drive, or USB flash drive.'

Sounds as though you have 2 Anti Virus programs on your laptop. Microsoft Security Essential is a genuine Anti Virus program free from Microsoft, and Symantec is a purchased Anti Virus program. I have use Norton's since 2000 and it hasn't failed me yet, but I have only 1 antivirus program on my computer. Microsoft Security Essentials can be removed from control panel ( add / remove) Symantec you will need to download a removal tool from symantec. You having 2 on your laptop will be causing your grief?

ok at the start do no longer panic. you have Microsoft protection necessities, which will cope with the stressful virus for you. What you could desire to do is do an entire test with MSE, and it will discover all of the viruses on your pc. while this is finished, there'll a catalogue of threats got here across and what you could desire to do is press the delete decision and it will immediately get rid of them.
