Knitting - if the pattern says end with wrong side (ws) ...?

... does that normally mean ending with a purl row (assuming you are knitting stocking stitch)? I have just started knitting again after 30 years and can't remember!!!!

It is very confusing!

If it says end "with a wrong side row" then end after a purl row.

If it says end " with wrong side facing" then do a knit row and turn so the wrong side is facing you.

The right side is the side you see when wearing the garment. The wrong side is the inside which doesn't show. Most patterns start with the first row having the right side facing you as you work and the second row has the wrong side facing you as you work. So working the last row on the wrong side means you finish at the end of an even numbered row.

Yes, you are right. The wrong side will be the purl side,

or the side which would be the inside of a garment,

or the side which is nearest to you as you work.

Yes if you were doing the SS you would end on a purl side.

  • I would check a good knitting book and see what that says about this.
