How do i hook up my laptop to my TV?

I want whatever is on my laptop monitor to display onto my t.v. I know you need a cord for it and i'd like if somebody could tell me what cord it is and where to buy it. I watch a lot of shows and play games on my laptop and i'd prefer if me and my family could watch it on our tv instead of huddling around a laptop.

Update:

TV- yellow/white/red input plugs.

Laptop - USB ports

- Larger and smaller phone jacks.. i think?

- SATA/USP port

- and an input port with little holes in it. I don't know what it is lol. it's rectangular and roughly a fingernail size.

The 'large phone jack' is you ethernet port for high speed internet. The 'small phone jack' is just that, a phone jack. The one with 3 rows of holes, 5 holes each, is your video out. It will hook to any computer monitor directly. There may well be a round port that has several holes in it also. That too is a video out. If your tv only has the RCA plug inputs ( white, yellow, red) then you probably can't hook to it without an adapter of some sort. I don't have much experience in the adapter field.

Source(s): Knowing my own laptop. I never used the round video out. I have hooked to external monitor.
