Is it difficult to learn programming languages?

I am interested in going to college for an associates in computer programming. As a requirement you have to learn multiple languages, such as Java, C++, c#, etc. How hard it is to learn these languages in general. I know different people learn at different rates, I just need a general description. Thanks!

    Hi, Tyrion

In my opinion computer programming is not difficult to learn but, you'll need to commit a lot of time into studying , researching, and reading on the creator of the language philosphy and so forth to become very familar with the languages you choose to study. I

If you're trying to learn web development then you must learn HTML, CSS, and a few scripting languages like javascript. I know when I started in school a few years ago, we were taught visual basic programming first then we were given the option to select from two groups c programming and java programming.

If you want to be very good at specific languages it's best to study one language per year until you have a comfortable understanding on coding that particular language then move to another one if you choose. But, if you want to be an expert at a particular language it may take up to 10,000 hours (3 years). As far as the amount of math involved the most I have seen so far with the type of programming, I have done is advanced algebra but, if you're trying to get into game design that gets more into geometry, calculas, and physics.

Here are a few free downloadable text editors you can use:

    Notepad2 available on www.cnet.com

    HTML kit availabe on www.htmlkit.com

    Or purchase visual studio.

Once you know the fundamentals and become decent with one language, you'll find it much easier to learn a second one.

You'll be most confused when you start because you'll be trying to wrap your head around the core concepts of computer science while at the same time getting bogged down in the syntax and semantics of your language. You have to learn to "think" like a computer as you figure out the precise logic that you need to solve a problem.

It is not easy... but it is a little easier than C++ and other prog languages. I never learned Java, but do websites and I can get a script and pick it apart and get it to do what I want. No chance of that in C++
