Can a section of brake line be replaced?
I ave a 1998 GMC Sonoma pick-up with about a 2 foot long brake line coooded and it has a small leak.
Does the entire line need replacing?
I just wanted the replace the corroded section as it will be difficult to get all the twist and turns in a new line.
Can you buy a new line all ready to fit? Where?

Yes you can! It is not illegal, and people don't recommend you not do it. Federal law does say that any repair made to hydraulic brake lines must be double flared. This is no big deal, you can buy the 4 foot peices oof lines at the parts store, and rent the double flare tool from them. Ask them to explain how to use it, they can show you. THese lines you can either bend with a bender, or just bend them by hand, i personally think by hand is easier. Hope this helps, and if it were me just do that entire section of line, because the rest of the line will rust out soon enough.

You can fit in a replacement piece, but it's not recommended. The best, and safest option is to go buy a new brake line and replace the entire part.

Yes, you can buy a pre-formed brake line at the dealership. It costs a little more than a staight line from the auto parts store, but does make replacement much easier.

ok first of all its not illegal. and yes you can replace just a section, but you'd have to cut into good line and attempt to flare it on the vehicle because you cant / shouldn't ever use a compression fitting on brake lines. you would need to flare both ends of existing line with nuts and connect them to new section using unions... its best to replace the entire piece of line.

"tmayes10" is correct. but unless you can do it yourself it will probably cost just as much to do as replacing the entire line. you can buy steel brake line at any parts store. and it does have to be double flared with fine thread components because it is a high pressure system. its probably junk yard time because the part is surely no longer available.

You can,but it probably won't be long before another section of the line starts leaking.you're better off replacing the whole thing.

Well thats like sealing a leaking radiator hose.
You replace the whole thing. I mean, its all gonna
be in the same condition, all 2 feet of it. You can
expect more problems from it very soon again.
