  • 1998 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L check engine light on. Code P0170?

It has 168,000 miles on it but it runs great. P0170 is Fuel trim malfunction (doesn't say rich or lean)

OK, here is what I have done so far. Replaced gas cap, spark plugs, fuel filter, and the thermostat (had code P0125 (Insufficient coolant temp for closed fuel ctrl) come up once). Cleaned air filter, checked MAF (it looked brand new), checked for vacuum leaks (did not find any), ran a can of B-12 through the last 3 tanks of gas. After each repair, I erased the codes and drove to reset the computer. The amount of miles till the light comes back on is getting less. First time went 87 miles, then 42, etc. This time it was only 7 miles. It seems like everything I have done is making it worse instead of better.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? Has this happened to you? If so, what did you do?

Several suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • P0170 code-Fuel trim malfunction. What can it be?

'98 Galant - Check engine light is on - Code P0170-Fuel trim malfunction. I replace the gas cap and added fuel injector cleaner to the tank, and checked for vacuum leaks, erased codes and drove to reset computer. At 67 miles light came back on, Code P0125-Insufficient coolant temp for closed loop fuel ctrl. So replaced the thermostat, refilled coolant and bled off air. Drove again and after a few miles, light came back on. Code P0170-Fuel trim malfunction. So what else can it be? Money is tight this time of year, so hopefully someone knows or has an idea of what to check and how to check it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • 2005 Chevy Silverado - Service Air Bag light on?

The info strip on dash shows "Service Air Bag" usually when it is very humid or raining. First, I didn't know you had to service an air bag. What could be the possible cause? How would be the best way to go about finding it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • 1998 Mitsubitchi Galant!!! Check engine light is on. What do I do next? Code P0170?

It has been well maintained and everything works. Drives fine but check engine light is on. Original code was P0170-Fuel Trim Malfunction. I replaced the gas cap and added B-12 to the gas tank to clean the fuel system and injectors, erased the codes and drove to reset the computer. At 67 miles, check engine light came back on. New code is P0125-Insufficient Coolant Temp for Closed Loop Fuel Ctrl. I replaced the thermostat with an OEM part from the dealership and erased the code. Drove about 20 miles and the code P0170 comes back. What should I do next? and if that doesn't work, what then? and so on.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • 1998 Mitsubishi Galant. Will the computer reset without driving?

The check engine light came on. Code p0170 - Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 1). I replaced the gas cap and added B-12 to the gas. I erased codes and drove 87 miles and the light came on again. This time code p0125 - Insufficient coolant temp for closed loop fuel ctrl. I replaced the thermostat, erased codes and drove it again. At 97 miles, light came back on. I am going to do some other maintenance to try to cure this problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My question is, do I have to put the miles on to reset the computer? Or can I leave it idle to do so?

  • What would be the most likely cause for Insufficient coolant temp for closed loop fuel control?

1998 Mitsubishi Galant - The original code was p0170 - Fuel trim malfunction, so I replaced the gas cap and added a can of B-12 to the tank to clean the injectors and erased the codes. I then drove the car about 85 miles. The check engine light came back on, code is p0125 - Insufficient coolant temp for closed loop fuel control. I then replaced the thermostat, erased codes, and made it 97 miles til the light came back on. Code is again p0125. The radiator is clean and coolant good. What should I try next? Any help will be appreciated.

  • Can OBDII code p0125 cause code p0170?

I've been having a code p0170 (Fuel trim malfunction) code coming up on my 1998 Mitsubishi Galant. I replaced the gas cap and added a can of B-12 fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank. I erased the codes and drove about 80 miles. The computer reset and now the code is p0125 (Insufficient coolant temp for closed loop fuel control). So now I have replace the thermostat to see if that is causing the problem. Are these 2 codes related? Any help would be appreciated.

  • OBDII code PO170-Fuel trim malfunction/bank 1. Where would be a good place to start looking for the problem?

1998 Mitsubishi Galant - 2.4L - Where should I start looking for the problem. I understand it could be as simple as a vacuum leak. How is the best and most economical way to check this? I would like to start with the cheapest possible repair and work up to the most expensive. Any ideas?

  • What is a "fuel trim malfunction"?

I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant with a 2.4 liter engine. The check engine light is on and when I run an OBD2 test on it, it gives a code of PO170, fuel trim malfunction. I do all of my own repairs, but not sure what this is. Please help.
