2005 Chevy Silverado - Service Air Bag light on?

The info strip on dash shows "Service Air Bag" usually when it is very humid or raining. First, I didn't know you had to service an air bag. What could be the possible cause? How would be the best way to go about finding it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

More them likely you'll find a corroded wire under the drivers side kick panel but if you don't know much about air bags and how they work have a mechanic look at it ...Air bags are not as scary as every one thinks it's next to impossible to have one go off with out getting in to an accident but if you don't know what your doing all it takes is running 12v to the right wire :+P

First, I agree with tommy44432. AutoZone is independent and will test it as many times as you want, free of charge. As far as Bosch goes, I've never had a problem with their stuff. Sometimes you just get a bad part. Happened to me with a power window motor. Fought that thing for 2 hours on the install, and then the thing didn't work. Sometimes, defective parts make it out for resale.

go to your local mechanic or a mechanic you trust, he can hook up a scan tool to your vehicles electrical system and codes are set for the problem he can look up the ciodes and usually know the problem. it could be a sensor thats bad or some wiring thats corroded or shorted. if you bring it into the shop the mechanic can find out. dont ry to fix it yourself! cars electrical is very complex and tampering with airbag wiring is very dangerous even just hooking up a small miltimeter to the wiring of a airbag can set it off.
