Is this Haraam for me to do?

Asalamu alaikum

I am software developer currently working for a Software Application Company, owned by a non-Muslim..

We have one Application, the Application is already written and everything, so I don't actually make anything. And the product/application itself is not Haraam.

What I do is, after a company buys this product, they have the option of changing a few things, I do those changes.

This is my question:

If the salesperson sells to a Haraam company, is it Haraam for me to do work on the product which is being shipped to them?

Jazakallah khair

Update:

@Maryam m:

We may be allowed to trade and work with non-muslims, but are we allowed to trade and work with Haraam companies?

We are allowed to trade and work with non-Muslims. So yes it is ok for you to continue with your work.

@ pointer. Ok I understand what you are saying. Let me put it another way. If you help in the manufacture of knives, what would be Islamic opinion be. It is up to the person using it. He can use it for good cause and cut meat and vegs and invite the poor to his home to eat. Or he can invite the poor and kill them with the knife.

It is not the knife that is bad. You will all agree. It is how it is used.

I hope this helps with your question.

    Salam Dear friend,

Nice knowing you. I am too a software developer. You do not own the company.

You can not control where to sell software, where not. So you are only working on the

implementation part. Therefore, you can do your bit of the job without incurring any sin.

I work in Pakistan. I develop accounting software. Some companies use the

software to under report their Revenues. A Software developer can not control this

aspect. I think you are responsible only for the part you control. I did an istikhara,

and got the reply that I may continue selling the software.

Pray to Allah Almighty, He is very Kind and Considerate. He does not put

more burden on anyone than he can carry.

Good luck for better placement. Ma as salamah.
