I think you will find the Catholics have now decided Purgatory no longer exists.

Which is sad for them because it was a great little money spinner. Medieval Lords spent millions (in today's terms) on chantries and priests to pray over their souls to reduce the time they spent there.

Lots of less well off folk bought Indulgences for the same reason.

Mothers of babies that die before they are baptised can feel relieved, but I wonder what happened to all the little babies that were languishing there until the Pope abolished it?

Do intelligent people (or indeed anybody who is not a complete fool) actually believe this stuff?

Scripture doesn't talk about purgatory, but Jesus does say that few will find the way to Heaven (He is the way, according to Him). He doesn't give a ratio, and tells us not to judge who is true and who is false among those who claim to be Christians (parable of the wheat and tares), so there's no way to know that.

Matthew 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

I'm not Catholic, but I would assume, by their doctrine, that all would have to spend at least a little time.

What concerns me about the thought that we "need to be made right" is that I thought our entrance into the Kingdom took care of that. What is it about Purgatory that will make me right? More punishment?

And, when one looks into the depths of their heart, they find they are * so * not right. Were this doctrine correct, I shudder at how much time I would require to rectify the situation.

Who knows? Its an opinion. I'd say more people are going to hell than heaven in our age. But what if hell does not exist and we all go to heaven? And what if none of them exist. By the way, I'm not an atheist, but I am a catholic with alot of science influenced on me.

The amount of people who end "up" in hell depends upon each of us as the whole world lives in spiritual darkness and is definitely under the influence and control of Lucifer the "dark" angel of light! His arch enemy is Jesus the Christ, the "Light" of the world and the Son of the Living God. The invisible Kingdom of Christ was and still is in the EAST and eternal future which is in the Heavenly realm and on the opposite side of the ACTUAL cross that Jesus was crucified upon. All humanity lives natural born of the flesh on the earth on this side of that one cross. You can see the "masses" of humanity in the left wing of every nation that has "turned" their backs on this one cross. Thee left wings are facing and heading WEST on land. Because they have no spiritual light from the Kingdom of Christ, "all" these people will end UP in Lucifer's Kingdom which is in the WEST and eternal past! Individuals like you and me, need to wake these people up and point EAST to the eternal Kingdom and let them make up their own minds to "repent" which means change directions on land and "face their God given future by the Spirit of God which of course means they will end up in the eternal Kingdom of Christ is they obey daily and don't turn back to the natural realm of the flesh!

I Wouldn't Know That Because Its Not My Place To Judge.

How would I know? I'm not God.

ETA: I'm not God, so I don't feel as though I'm in a position to judge. I leave that up to God. I just do the best I can (with plenty of prayer-- REALLY needed with a two-year-old and being pregnant), and leave it up to God.

    Craig,

I think it's a sign of intelligence and free thinking for one to question such things. Also, before you comment on somebody's intelligence, or what you think is lacking, I suggest you at least spell "intelligence" correctly. (Never mind your lack of sentences.)

Many are called but few are chosen. Purgatory is a myth no matter who believes in it.
