just wondering... would this work?

OK, we all know that an internal combustion engine operates by mixing fuel and air. Ideally, oxygen. But the standard atmosphere is filled with surprisingly low amounts of oxygen. We all also know that nitrous boosts power by carrying more oxygen than the standard atmosphere. So I was thinking, could you run a high-performance engine by injecting pure O2 into the carb/throttle body? Just keep a big tank with you? I do realize this is a bit of a fire-hazard, but lets not worry about that. I just want to know would this even work? Or would it all just explode and send bits of engine out the tailpipe? I'm just curious, thanks for answering!

It sounds possible but it would only be even the slightest bit useful if you were trying to do this on something like a dragster
