If you take dual credit classes in High School do you apply to college as a freshman or a transfer student?

My daughter is a senior in High School. Right now she has 19 hours and is taking 7 hours this semester and will take 7 hours next semester giving her 33 college hours.

you still apply as a freshman but you can use those credits in college and depending on how many you have you may have a sophomore standing.

For example, if you come in with 30 credits and it takes 120 credits total to graduate you already have 1/4 of those credits, so technically you are a sophomore (as long as you have completed the freshman requirements, etc.)

This is very beneficial if you want to graduate school early, but don't get too excited... just because technically your a sophomore..there is absolutely no other privilege difference you will have from a freshman.

Since I'm guessing she's taking those courses at your local communtity college -- to be a true "transfer student" you daughter would have to have finished her Associates Degree (2yr) while having accumulated 60 credit hours, and thus be eligible to transfer in as a junior.

Otherwise, she's a freshman - and would likely later have her status changed (by the university) to that of a sophomore due to the number of credit hours she's completed.
