Is this considered hallucinating or something else?

If I'm seeing/hearing things that aren't there, or mistaking an object for a completely different one, but I can tell that it's not real, does that still qualify as a hallucination?

(If it makes any difference, this is not drug-induced, legal or otherwise.)

Update:

Yes, I definitely need to see a doctor for a diagnosis of the underlying cause.I just want to make sure have the right terminology - "hallucation" seems to more heavily indicate a psych disorder and I'm really hoping to check neurological and somatic problems before facing that idea.

The doctor will be able to tell you the right word for what you are experiencing, just make sure you tell him all the symptoms..and when it started. Write it down if you need to.

    date it began

    how often

    what kind of noises

    what kind of "visions"

any change in sleeping habits or eating

    stress

    any type of medication..vitamins too

    anything traumatic recently

    any strange thoughts, dreams etc...

I think you should just call your doctor, make an appointment and see what he or she says. I think it's better getting a doctor's answer to hallucinating than answers from Yahoo! answers.

    Source(s): common sense.

Let your Dr. Know you think you are having visual hallucinations. Make a Dr. appt. and get it checked out ASAP.
