  • What is the difference between "disease process", "signs and symptoms", and "pathophysiology of the disease"?

I am writing a paper on hyperthyroidism for my pathophysiology course, and the rubric seems really unclear to me. Maybe it's because this is an accelerated course and the first of its kind that I've taken, but I can't figure out exactly what the professor is looking for, and they haven't responded to my attempts at contact yet. The rubric wants a section where I "define the disease process", then a separate section where I discuss "signs and symptoms" as well as treatment options, and another section where I discuss the "pathophysiology of the disease". Wouldn't there be a lot of overlap between the information for each of those sections? What exactly does "define the disease process" mean anyway?

  • What companies offer smaller mortgage loans?

I am looking to buy a house that has an asking price of $18,900. I have decent credit (600-range) and regular income (1600/month), but no one will offer a mortgage because they do not offer mortgages that small. Are there companies that do? I am located in Pennsylvania.

  • What is the "educational loan center"?

I have three loans with Citibank, and one with AES. I got a response from Citibank to a request for password reset, but instead of the link directing me back to the Citibank site, it sent me to educationalloancenter.com. Only my Citibank loans show on the ELC site, they don't give me any more or less information than the Citibank website itself, and I can perform all account management functions on both accounts. The confusing part is that there is no direct link from Citibank to ELC anywhere, in either direction.

I'm assuming it's Citibank run because my log-on name and password work on both sites.

But if it's just a duplicate function for functionality that already exists on the direct site, why does it exist?

  • What are the steps involved in flushing a hot water boiler?

I flushed our hot water boiler on Wednesday by opening the drain valve until the water ran clear and then closing it again. Now it seems there's no water pressure in the boiler, and our radiators are cold despite the thermostat indicating that the heat is on (I've since shut it off to save gas until I figure this out). Is there another valve I have to open/close to refill the tank?

  • So, what exactly is considered Tennis shoes?

So, I got reprimanded at work today for wearing sneakers. The same sneakers I've been wearing since I started, actually. They said I was in dress code violation, and told me that "tennis shoes" aren't allowed. I've always thought of tennis shoes as canvas Keds or Converse All-Stars. Mine are kind of plain, black with white laces. I guess someone might consider them skateboarding shoes, but I'm not really sure. The dress code doesn't outright say "dress shoes only", in fact, it says sandals are okay. I've never heard ALL sneakers are considered "tennis shoes" ever, but I just need to see if anyone agrees with me, or not. Or am I just crazy? Regardless, I can't really afford to run out and buy shoes because after nine months someone decided my shoes aren't okay anymore.

  • What stores still sell fabric by the bolt?

I'm looking for a store (preferably a chain or something that has a location in Wilkes-Barre PA) that sells bolts of novelty fabric, the kind of thing you would use to make a Halloween costume.

  • Is this considered hallucinating or something else?

If I'm seeing/hearing things that aren't there, or mistaking an object for a completely different one, but I can tell that it's not real, does that still qualify as a hallucination?

(If it makes any difference, this is not drug-induced, legal or otherwise.)

  • Looking for a gay-friendly Christian church in Wilkes-Barre PA?

I'm trying to find a GLBT-friendly and affirming church on the southern side of Wilkes-Barre PA. I'm not looking for a church that will simply allow me to be a member there as long as I keep quiet. I'm looking for a church that openly recognizes and blesses GLBT people of faith.

  • Does the current title holder on a car need to be present at a notary for a title transfer in Pennsylvania?

If I purchase a car, and the current owner signs the title, can I take that signed title and the bill of sale to a notary for the title transfer? Or does the current title holder need to be present at the notary for the transfer to take place?

  • What are the income limits for TANF eligibility in Pennsylvania?

I'm currently working full time, but I'm still only earning $1200/month. My wife stays home with our 6-week-old son, because the money she could earn would only be $100-200 more than the cost of childcare, and we don't want strangers raising our son anyway.

We currently receive food benefits, but I'd like to know if we'd also be eligible for some cash assistance. What are the income guidelines for TANF and/or General Assistance in PA?

  • Is this MetLife/East Penn Financial interview a scam or a real job?

I received an unsolicited email earlier tonight offering me a job interview with MetLife as a "Financial Services Representative/Financial Advisor". The email says the company I will be interviewing with is the Allentown branch of East Penn Financial Group, and as best I can find out, they are a real company and a real subsidiary of MetLife.

Has anyone else received similar emails? Is it a scam or do I actually go to the interview on Thursday?

  • I remember this book, but not the title or author?

I read this probably 5 or 6 years ago, while I was in high school. It's a book for teens; had a writing style very similar to that of Lois Lowry's "The Giver".

The main premise of the book is a group of people who left Earth and colonized a new planet to create a society of blind people. The main character is a boy about 15 years old who suddenly starts being able to see, and he discovers all these bad things about his society. He's trying to track down, toward the end, what happened to his girlfriend/best friend.

Does anybody know what book this is?

  • Linux Mint LiveCD boot issues?

I'm trying to install LinuxMint on my PC. I get the splash screen and the dialog box reading "Kernel Loading", but after that I just get dumped to the command line. It doesn't matter if I boot regular or safe mode, I get the same problem. I've tried the "noapic" and "acpi=off" commands - I get several screens of rapidly scrolling text, then the command line again.

There's nothing wrong with my CD - I downloaded from an official mirror, burned slowly, verified the md5sum, all of that.

  • Social environment on the Caribbean island of Saba?

I want to know how open the people on Saba are to the GLBT community. Basically, if I live there as an openly gay man, what will the community reaction be?

  • Why (in the US) is prostitution illegal but the creation of pornography legal?

It just confuses me. If I go have sex with someone for money, that's illegal. But if a 3rd party pays both of us to have sex on camera, that's legal. Why? Can someone explain the legal process here? (I'm honestly curious, not trying to be crass)

  • Religious arguments against transsexualism?

I'm looking for religious arguments *against* transsexualism. My mom is probably going to spout some of them at me when I come out to her, and I want to have replies lined up.

  • Curiosity - how many FtMs are answering questions here?

I'm an FtM, and always assumed I was in the minority anywhere I went. But it seems like there's a lot of us here, and I'm curious as to how many (esp gay transmen, because that's an even smaller category).

  • What's appropriate for a semi-formal dance?

This is a college semi-formal dinner and dance. The girls will be wearing (according to my date) floor-length dresses. I'm assuming that this should be less than tux, but more than shirt and tie? Suit with tie?

What's in style for suits right now, anyway?

  • What's a non-medicinal cure for insomnia?

This is getting out of control. I can't fall asleep in less than an hour, and some nights (like tonight) I never do. I don't like to take medications, because they give me hangovers. What can I do to deal with this? I've already tried meditation exercises, darkening my room, and dimming the lights for 30 minutes before I go to bed.
