What is the "educational loan center"?

I have three loans with Citibank, and one with AES. I got a response from Citibank to a request for password reset, but instead of the link directing me back to the Citibank site, it sent me to educationalloancenter.com. Only my Citibank loans show on the ELC site, they don't give me any more or less information than the Citibank website itself, and I can perform all account management functions on both accounts. The confusing part is that there is no direct link from Citibank to ELC anywhere, in either direction.

I'm assuming it's Citibank run because my log-on name and password work on both sites.

But if it's just a duplicate function for functionality that already exists on the direct site, why does it exist?

Citibank is the originator of your loan. However, often times banks will have another part of their company, in this case Educational Loan Center, to handle the bookkeeping end of the loan. ELC is the entity that processes your payments, mails out statements, and files all the required tax information.

    Hope this helps.
