Linux Mint LiveCD boot issues?

I'm trying to install LinuxMint on my PC. I get the splash screen and the dialog box reading "Kernel Loading", but after that I just get dumped to the command line. It doesn't matter if I boot regular or safe mode, I get the same problem. I've tried the "noapic" and "acpi=off" commands - I get several screens of rapidly scrolling text, then the command line again.

There's nothing wrong with my CD - I downloaded from an official mirror, burned slowly, verified the md5sum, all of that.

What can I do?

Update:

Ok, when I type in "sudo startx" I get "/bin/sh: sudo not found" and then several lines of ACPI error messages.

    It's supposed to do that.

I don't know much about Mint, but i'm going to assume it's a GNU/Linux system.

When at the command line, type "sudo startx"
