substitution property.
y = x - 3
y = -2x - 3
the first equation tells you y is x - 3 so, plug in x - 3 for y in the second equation.
x - 3 = -2x - 3
now, solve:
x - 3 = -2x - 3
3x = 0
x = 0
plug in to either of the equations find y:
y = x - 3
y = 0 - 3
y = -3
now try the 2nd question on your own. exact same concept. :]

in case you have a set S = {s1, s2, s3}, then SxS is the set of ordered pairs drawn from S: this is, {(s1, s1), (s1, s2), (s1, s3), (s2, s1), (s2, s2), (s2, s3), (s3, s1), (s3, s2), (s3, s3)}. a similar shape applies for instruments of diverse sizes (cardinalities). The questions are then inquiring for the subset of the bypass-product for which the given relation is genuine.
