Its not to small, but it does look a little tight with all the ladders, and stuff. Its a little bit to small, but I dont think your going to have any problems, as long as its only one hamster. With that sized cage, just make sure you keep it extra clean :D

Your cage seems a little too small. I say that the minimum for Syrians is about 260 square inches, so I would get another cage.

Also, as I see other people have mentioned, the fact that the flooring on the levels is wire is bad for your hamster. After a while of walking on this, your hamster could develop bramble foot, or in other words, irritated feet. Sometimes, sores may occur.

Also, the height of the cage: Hamsters not only have bad eye sight, but are very bad climbers. If your hamster somehow falls off the top level, your hamster could be injured.

As for the wheel, it looks VERY small. A rule for wheels: If your hamster arches it's back while running, it's too small. Also, the rungs on the wheels can be dangerous: While running, a hamster leg can become caught in the wheel, and break.

    Hi,

I think his cage is okay-ish I suppose size-wise (it's certainly not the smallest I've seen) although I prefer to keep my hamsters in a larger cage personally. The key concerns I have with this cage are:-

    i) The wheel - a solid wheel is preferable (no 'rungs') to prevent the trapping of limbs and fur, etc. Also, the wheel also needs to be larger to prevent your hamster getting potential spinal problems as it grows up and gets bigger. A larger wheel will prevent the hamster having to bend it's spine whilst on the wheel and will be better health-wise for the hamster.

ii) The floor and levels of the cage seem to be wire (although it is difficult to see in your video). This can be uncomfortable for the hamster's paws and can cause problems so a solid floor is much better.

iii) The cage is quite high / tall. Hamsters have limited vision and can often have little sense of height or danger. There could be a possibility that the hamster could injure itself if there is a chance it could fall or jump straight from the top level to the floor. Again, sorry but this is difficult to see clearly in your video so might not be a problem?

The RSPCA says the minimum size of a hamster cage should be 75 x 40 x 40 cm but the larger the better.

I have recently kept 2 hamsters in 2 of the following cages (1 per cage) which I have found to be spacious and excellent overall. My hamsters like the cage and I have also noticed that some behavioural issues I have seen with other hamsters (e.g. bar chewing) have not happened with the two syrian females (who had an identical cage each) and they seemed MUCH happier as a result of the increased space. Both girls were rescue hamsters and a bit traumatised when I got them but they were soon settled and happy in these larger cages. If I could buy a bigger version of this I would but I think this is one of the biggest on the market at the moment. It is well worth it in my opinion. I know everyone has their own preferences but I personally love this cage :-)

I hope this helps and good luck with your hamster, the most important thing above everything else is to give it love, care and a lot of attention every single day. If you do this Dingo will love you back and become your best friend - I promise :-)

I think that the cage is fine for one hamster. Its much better them some of the plastic tubes and tubes that some people insist on calling hamster cages.

That's a reasonable sized cage for a hamster, you don't have anything to worry about.

If you want to give him more freedom just let him out often to play with you.
