Can you get finacial aid if you are on SSI disablity?
My friend has CF and has not applied for financial aid because she is afraid it will effect her disability. The financial help with her going to college for her family would really help. I wanted to know if anyone knew about this. Plz help.

her financial aid won't effect her disability at all. Her income and assets will be looked at to determine what kinds and how much aid she will qualify for. If she is married her spouses income will also be looked at. Some students also have to report the folks income.
If her goal is to go to work, then she should definitely apply and see what happens. If this is not her goal, I would not encourage her to do so... People go to school so they can get a job and be employed. If she is new to disability and will come up for review often, it will be hard for her disability benefits to continue to be approved if she is going to college, living her life, just like everyone else who is healthy and able to work.
Just something to think about.

Tell her it will in NO WAY affect her disability. She will probably be eligible for the full amount of the pell grant ($5550 per year) provided she doesn't have many assets, no income from a spouse (or parent if she is 23 or under), and will be enrolled full-time.
