Is the new ipod touch worth getting?
Apple have just announced the new ipod touch, with the new camera allowing you to take HD movies and to use Facetime to chat with other ipod touch 4th gen or iPhone 4 users. But £189 for the new one (8GB) seems quite expensive, so I'll probably get it when it gets a bit cheaper (hopefully Amazon will lower the price once it comes out).
I've never had an iPod touch before (or any iPod), so I can't judge roughly what it would be like from past models. I know that I can get an ipod Classic (160GB) for just a little bit more, but the memory isn't the most important thing. And the ipod nano, although £60 cheaper, is too small.
I'm planning to use the Touch for movies, to use the apps, among other things (inc. maybe Facetime).
In terms of music, I don't think I have enough to fill 8GB (only have 1.32GB worth according to iTunes), but seeing as I'll be using it as a camera, for watching movies and for using apps, 8GB may not be enough.
So my questions are:
A)Is the Ipod touch worth at least £189 based on the previous iPod touches and the fact it now has a camera?
B)Will 8GB be enough for music, movies, recording HD videos, apps, etc? If not, I'll maybe get the 32GB.
P.S. I do have an MP3 player ATM, but its quite basic. My mobile is also quite basic, so I can't use the internet on it or any apps, and the calendar is rubbish on it. Also, I do have a camera (quite a good one, but without HD video recording), but I wouldn't carry my camera everywhere I go whereas I can take the iTouch everywhere I go without being hindered by a large camera.
Cheers

Not sure if I have an answer for you but I can share my experience as I feel we were in a similar situation - We had separate older MP3 player (not ipod touch), basic phone, good digital camera, decent but aging GPS, older cassette based digital camcorder. We wanted to get a new phone (iphone 4 or Samsung Galaxy phone) and/or MP3 player (ipod touch) that replaced one or more of the older devices!
We ended up getting the iPhone 4 and it does a good job of replacing all the older devices AND, ofcourse, gives the advantage of using apps. We however felt the cost of the iphone was a bit high and thought it might be cheaper to get a different smartphone (we can get a Samsung Galaxy phone with Android for one third the cost of the iphone locally due to discounts and promotions) and supplement it with the new ipod touch with the assumption that the new ipod touch might offer features we felt were better on the iphone compared to the samsung phone (namely, Facetime which we use regularly with our out of town relatives as well as the slightly better camera/camcorder of the iphone 4).
However, looking at the specs of the new ipod touch announced yesterday, I am a bit disappointed that while the ipod touch has facetime, the rear camera is not the same caliber as that on the iphone 4, nor does the ipod touch have a flash like the iphone. Having a good camera/camcorder is important for us and so we might end up sticking with the iphone 4.
As for capacity, I agree that since we also plan to use it for camera/camcroder and watching movies/videos, we felt the 16GB might be a bit insufficient so decided to go with the 32GB.
This may not have answered your question but hopefully helps you with your decision based on your needs.

It's definitely worth getting a touch. U can do so much on it. Actually, I'm on mine right now. As far as the camera, I can't say if I would use it because mine doesn't have one so other than video chatting or occassional pictures, I don't think I would use it. 8 GB is plenty, but mine is 16. I have enough music that I could only put one playlist on if I wanted a lot of room for apps. But either way still way worth it!

It is worth it! You can text, play games, and more with a wide variety of apps! It is pretty good that it will have a camera, but it seems like you could get on Iphone, with everything the Itouch has with an extra phone. 8GB is enough for me! It can hold up more than you think, hundreds of songs and apps, its probably OK! I hope this helped!
