Why hospitality has nosedived at home and other hospitality industry?
I am reluctant to visit relatives' or friends' house on holidays to invite them for any function.
The present generation is so preoccupied with their job and only on holidays they get some breathing
space.Visiting during interesting TV serials also disturbs them.
The charm of hospitality is an even of yesteryear, sorry to say this.

The problem is we are just unable to afford having guests or being a guest. With the high cost of living and our limited resources, it is inconvenient to invite guests or visit them. And as you say, we are so involved in the rat race, that we have no time or inclination for hospitality. Sure, the charm of hospitality is bygone.

The rapid change in work culture or business culture is a main cause for it. Also the pattern of living has changed a lot particularly in cities and towns. Was there a night shift culture or getting jobs in a far away place from home prevailed some 30 years back as common as now a days?
This has changed the behavior of us as well.
We find it hard to spend time for our self.
Even the society setup has changed, earlier the entertainments were limited, now you have so many of entertainments facilities make us drown in them.
Lastly the human behavior due to the above factor has changed, lot of jealousy, envy starting from my child has taken up this coaching, is scoring high mark....blah blah blah..... which has reduced the hospitality around and nosedived.
It has taken a new route see the gathering of friends in a common place let it be a pub, bar, club, ........ What happened to the culture of going to the temple in the evening to listen to the Kadhakalasebam? now people go to temple in a mechanical way to get flowers from the preist rather than to spend time in temple to pray, discuss to God within... We are all prefering forums such as Y!A to share rather than prefering our old cultural habits.

I have first experienced this in 1994 in Delhi. I was just transferred to that city and so we went visit one known Uncle and Aunt (who used to request us to be at their home since previous 10 years when we were not in Delhi). The mistake we did was visited them without any prior appointment.
Afterwards when we experienced the same with few other occasions we had learned that in present day Civilized (!) and Modern (!) society how we have to mix with others.
Now the same is being experienced in all other cities and towns too.
We only visit those friends and relatives who would not be angry or feel disturbed even if I drop at their place at night 12:00.
As per my understanding the reasons for this DEVELOPMENT (!) of Society are -
1. We are more self centered
2. We stopped looking at the world through others point of view.
3. We least bothered what happens to others. (One of my cousin did not visit his maternal grand father's funeral, whom she used love a lot before marriage, due the class test of her daughter who studies in Standard 1. There are many more similar incidences happening all over India ).
4. For some its economic crisis but not at this extent.

The abandonment of Joint Family System is the main root cause for the hospitality nosedived at home.

For any job in the construction industry you need a Pakistani passport. Then be prepared to be treated like a dog & be expected to live in a kennel. Dont do it! Dubai may look beautiful but its built on the blood & sweat of poorly paid & ill treated labor from the Indian sub-continent. They used to call it slavery!

This is a real deterioration of culture by way of invasion of global culture.
I remember, in boyhood all boys of the street will gather in evening in streets and play. Every one knows each other. Todays status is that the boys of same street are strangers. Pathetic.

No need to feel sorry, only thing it takes time to digest and adjust.
Human touch is lost and their spare time is spent in pubs and bars,
