noisy neighbours making friend ill?

my friend is at her wits end - her neighours have a toddler that screeches day and night and is clearly heard through the ajoining walls - she has tried speaking to the neighbour but this has made no difference - in addition there is lot of additional noise - hammering and banging. It is affecting my friend's health and she is unable to take sleeping medication because this will affect her ability to do her nursing job - sensible suggestions please as to anything that may help her situation - She appreciates it is a difficult situation because the main noise is from a child and the mother screeching back at the child - the mother and child in question rent the property from a private landlord but are funded by the DSS

tell her to tell her private landlord. tell her to Complain to the local council about how this is affecting her health and about all the noise. Tell her to buy foam earplugs and wear them while she sleeps...it reduces the noise. earplugs can be sold in any pharmacist, or in a supermarket health section in tesco, sainsburys etc. hope i helped...

here is a british website that can help,. http://www.noisyneighbours.net/approaching-noisy-n...

Source(s): the foam earplugs worked for me when someone living on the next wall to me made very loud noise.

She should go to her landlord, explain the problem and request an apartment in another part of the building. The child may have some mental or emotional problems which cause the crying and the mom may be doing all she can. Your friend's only solution is to move to another unit.

If this is happening after 10:00 p.m. (noise curfew), she can call the police and report that there is excessive noise. Make sure to mention that this occurs so frequently that it's affecting her health. Make this call only if and when the noise is occurring after 10:00 p.m.

If she's already spoke to them, then she should complain to the landlord/DSS or, speak to them again and this time threaten them with Social services if they don't keep the noise down? i know exactly what she is going through.

Talk to someone at you council who deals with noise problems. They will expect your friend to keep a record of the times and what disturbed her. They are discrete and will also call to see your friend.

police are of no use, your friend has to complain to the council, most have a noisy neighbour dept (It may not be called that, but they do have one)
