Tips for Oktoberfest?

My wife and I are going to Munich for Oktoberfest. We'll be with a couple of American ex-pats who live and work in Germany and we already have hotel and tent reservations.

What tips can you give for us to have an enjoyable time?

In case you don't have a reservation for one of the tents be aware to go there early enough to get a place.

Also take care German beer is a lot stronger than American beer do not drink too fast and not too much. But since there are Americans with you who live here in Germany I guess they will know that already.

I also join the official website of Oktoberfest you find all info you need on there.

Most of all have fun and enjoy your time in Munich and at the Oktoberfest.

Here is a handy collection of Oktoberfest travel tips: http://www.live-like-a-german.com/search/Oktoberfe... - In addition, I recommend using part of the time to explore other areas of Munich and surroundings. Dress up!

    - Don't dress too extensively Bavarian (a Trachten hat and a Dirndl blouse may be allowed).

    - Indulge in a big beer first (a "Maß"), then try a "Hendl" (fried chicken). The other way round, it may reverse your stomach.

    - Your expat friends are maybe a lot more accustomed to German beer than you are, so if they invite you for a joyride on the "Achterbahn" (rollercoaster) after having one or two "Maß", be careful what you do!

And most of all, trust your friends! It's not easy to find an enyoyable and affordable restaurant in Munich during Oktoberfest time as a foreigner, so rely on their home cooking skills, and maybe bring some recipes and ingredients with you. That will always be appreciated.
